About Harp House

Harp House is a charming terraced holiday home in the Devon village of Shaldon. Tastefully decorated and beautifully furnished for a self-catering break with family or friends, the period property sleeps six people in four bedrooms with a balcony and a private roof garden. The owners have retained original features, gently bringing Harp House into the 21st Century with efficient heating, fast WiFi, and high-quality appliances. You can walk everywhere from the cottage with the beach, river, bars, cafes, restaurants, and shops within 10 minutes or less from the door.

A highlight of any visit to Shaldon is walking to Ness Cove via Smugger's Tunnel. It doesn't matter how old you are. There's something a little thrilling about walking along the cool brick passage before emerging into the bright sunshine and sandy shore. The tunnel is almost as old as the summer regatta, a popular addition to the local calendar for 200 years. Having both the seaside and the river to explore means that you're never short of places to sit, swim, SUP, or sail, whatever the season. The South West Coast Path is a fantastic feature whether you're out for a leisurely summer stroll or a blow-the-cobwebs-away hike before finding a welcoming pub for a pie and a pint. Shaldon's golf course has some of the finest views in Devon, as do the animals at Shaldon Zoo.

Leave the car and take the passenger ferry across the River Teign to Teignmouth, where there is a beach, shops, cafes and other amenities. Alternatively, drive along the coast to the English Riviera and ride on the Ferris wheel at Torquay, walk along Paignton Pier, or around Brixham Harbour to the lighthouse. Other local attractions include Babbacombe Model Village, Paignton Zoo, and Kents Caverns Prehistoric Caves. Go inland and explore Dartmoor where hiking, pony trekking, mountain biking and climbing are only a few of many activities to enjoy.

Harp House is comfortable and convenient but, more importantly, feels warmly welcoming in all seasons.

Although the entrance to Harp House is at street level, accommodation is on the upper two floors.

Ground Floor:

  • Entrance hallway with storage for coats, shoes and prams, and a cupboard housing the washing machine.

First Floor:

  • Large sitting room looking out onto the balcony and Fore Street. Furnishings include two wingback armchairs and a well-stuffed sofa, shelves full of books and board games, and a Smart TV.
  • Across the landing is a cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin, and a bedroom/study with a single bed.
  • Open plan kitchen/diner is at the rear of the cottage with doors opening onto a private rooftop garden. Modern appliances make preparing and cooking meals quick and simple, while the dining table easily seats six so that everyone can enjoy meals together.

Top Floor:

  • A winding staircase leads to the three bedrooms and family bathroom on the top floor. These include the master bedroom suite furnished with a double bed, built-in storage, and an ensuite shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Second double bedroom with a kingsized bed, original feature fireplace, proper storage, and two sash windows overlooking Fore Street.
  • A fourth bedroom is also at the front of the house with a single bed and built-in storage.
  • Family bathroom has a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The holiday home has a balcony and a terrace garden with an outdoor table and six chairs on the first floor. There is parking on the street outside or in the village carpark a short walk from the door.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all provided by the owner. Guests to bring beach towels if they are necessary. A well-behaved dog is welcomed by arrangement. The property is strictly non-smoking.
