About Granary Cottage

Granary Cottage is one of six stunning self-catering properties at West Charleton Grange in the heart of Devon's beautiful countryside and within easy reach of the South Hams, breathtaking beaches and great pubs like the Ashburton Arms, which is only half a mile from the front door. With superb on-site facilities that include a swimming pool, tennis court and both indoor and outdoor play areas, the cottage which sleeps two people in one bedroom (and with space for a cot) is perfect for couples or small families. It enjoys an enviable position peacefully tucked away from everything, yet within easy reach of all the areas best bits; and is pet-friendly, and ideal whether you are staying on your own or booking several properties for a holiday as part of a larger group of family and friends.

Devon's beaches are world-class, but the charm of its countryside should not be underestimated. West Charleton Grange is named after the friendly village near where it sits, sheltered by the sides of the valley and surrounded by rolling green fields. It is a fantastic holiday destination for everyone, from those who love being outdoors and active every minute of the day, to holidaymakers who want nothing more than to laze about with a good book and an even better view.

It is easy to eat well in South Devon, and there is a wealth of excellent producers and suppliers of local food and drink within a small radius. The owners of West Charleton Grange are local and can happily recommend places to eat if you don't feel like cooking, or help arrange delivery of the best regional produce to be waiting for you on your arrival. Nearby, the small town of Kingsbridge has two supermarkets and a variety of shops, cafes and pubs.

You do not have to plan a summer holiday in Devon to enjoy its beautiful beaches. There is a wealth of stunning coastline to explore, with some of the beaches closest to Granary Cottage including Bantham Beach, South Milton Sands and Bigbury Bay, from where you can take the sea-tractor to Burgh Island. Swim, surf and body-board in the summer and enjoy an invigorating walk in winter, checking out excellent beach cafes like those at Torcross or Blackpool Sands.

If you can turn your back on the fantastic ocean views, you will find the verdant Devon countryside as beautiful as the beaches, with walking and cycling two of the most popular ways to explore. Hire a bike and ride through the Dartington Estate, or enjoy a romantic picnic beside the lighthouse at Start Point. Dartmoor is nearby, offering not only a landscape of rugged beauty but also friendly towns and villages brimming with independent pubs, cafes and shops.

Accommodation at Granary Cottage is spread over two floors and has an "upside-down" layout. A cot and stairgate are available - please ask when booking.


  • A welcoming entrance hallway has hooks to hang coats and bags.
  • Master bedroom which is a relaxing space with a sumptuously thick carpet that feels cosy even on winter mornings. The king-sized bed has a carved pine headboard that matches the chest of drawers, and the room has a built-in wardrobe for additional storage. The comfortable bed is made up with crisp white sheets, and the room has a calm, relaxing atmosphere to aid a good night's sleep.
  • Tiled bathroom with a bath including drench-head shower above it, WC and handbasin. Thick cotton towels add to the sense of luxury.


  • Living, dining and kitchen areas which are open-plan, making the most of original features like the exposed stone wall and oak beams. Oak flooring is complemented by a rustic leather sofa and plump footstool, while sash windows overlook the landscaped gardens to the countryside beyond. The television has a DVD player and Freesat channels.
  • Oak kitchen which has been handcrafted to fit the space, with granite worktops adding a sophisticated touch. The kitchen has everything a couple needs for a self-catering holiday in Devon, including a dishwasher. There is also a pine dining table and chairs.

Outside: Guests at Granary Cottage have use of the estate's indoor heated swimming pool, games room and folly. West Charleton Grange's extensive gardens include a pond, orchard, terrace with garden furniture and parasols, and a Victorian walled garden. Secure storage opposite Granary Cottage can be used for bikes, buggies and sporting equipment.

Additional Information: Granary Cottage has central heating and WiFi throughout. All utilities, linen and towels, including towels to use by the pool, are included. The property is dog-friendly, with up to two well-behaved dogs welcome out of season with prior agreement from the owner. Smoking is not permitted at West Charleton Grange.
