Frog Cottage in Combeinteignhead is a picture-perfect Devon holiday cottage with whitewashed cob walls shaped by hand centuries ago, a thatched roof, and a central location in a quiet village less than 100 yards from the friendly Wild Goose pub. The owners have lovingly restored the cottage to retain its period features like thick oak beams and an inglenook fireplace with an AGA for self-catering. Families, including those with children and dogs, can enjoy the beauty of rural Devon while being only a mile from Newton Abbott and three miles from Ness Cove and other sandy beaches.
Combeinteignhead is a picturesque hamlet in a conservation area in the Teign Valley. There's not a lot there, which is part of its charm, as it has a tranquil air even during the busy summer period. A few houses are centred around the 17th Century pub and the 14th Century church with stunning Elizabethan carved wooden pews. Lush green rolling hills surround the village. It's exactly what people imagine when they think of the Devon countryside, with miles of cycling trails, footpaths, and bridleways leading to explore. Walk or cycle to Ness Cove, strolling through Smuggler's Tunnel before continuing on foot along the magnificent South West Coast Path with its breathtaking panoramic views. Shaldon Beach is even closer, taking around 15-minutes to cycle the 2.5 mile route via scenic lanes, or you can take the ferry over the river to the popular resort of Teignmouth with its grand pier.
You'll find all of the groceries you need in Newton Abbot. The indoor market and food hall are open Monday to Saturday, with a busy farmers' market every Friday. All of the major supermarkets are within a ten-minute drive, and there is a choice of farm shops in the vicinity of the cottage and other places like the Old Walls Vineyard. It's no problem if you don't want to cook as you can book a table at the pub or one of the local restaurants.
Sailing, SUPs, kayaks, swimming, surfing and other water sports are accessible all year round. There are museums, country houses and historic churches, and fun family-friendly attractions like Kents Caverns, Paignton Zoo, Babbacombe Model Village, and the English Riviera Wheel. You'll find no end of fun, no matter what season you visit.
