Hollytree Garden is in the peaceful Derbyshire village of Boylestone, just a short walk from the award-winning Lighthouse Restaurant and the Rose and Crown pub. Surrounded by fields and countryside, and with panoramic views to the east across unspoilt Derbyshire countryside, the apartment is a wonderful setting for a holiday for two and sits in a quiet location just outside the southern boundary of the Peak District National Park. A convenient base for exploring the many popular attractions.
As well as its natural beauty, the Peak District National Park is renowned for the charm of its towns and villages with Ashbourne being a particularly good example. Seven miles from Hollytree Garden, the vibrant market town has over 200 listed buildings dating back to Tudor and Georgian times, and a range of independent shops, cafes and pubs. The town is known as the “Gateway to Dovedale” and caters well for visitors with an excellent array of supermarkets as well as a regular market held on Thursday and Saturday where you can buy a variety of locally produced food and drink. Ashbourne is also known for the quality of its antique and curio shops, making it a top choice for a relaxed few hours of browsing. The high moorlands and limestone caves of the Peaks sit beyond Ashbourne, as well as The Roaches, a dramatic wilderness found to the west in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Dovedale is a renowned beauty spot and a must-see while you are in the area. It is best known for the stepping stones that cross the Dove River, and there are walks to suit all abilities in the vicinity. A favourite walk is to the top of Thorpe Cloud. The steep, 287-metre ascent will reward you with glorious views of Derbyshire and Staffordshire. There is a more gentle path running beside the river for visitors who want a walk that is less strenuous but still beautiful. The Tissington Trail, which runs through Ashbourne Tunnel and into the centre of town is a good cycling route.
Nearby attractions include Sudbury Hall and the National Trust Museum of Childhood, Kedleston Hall, Calke Abbey and The Old Manor. Spend the day discovering the delights of places like Belper, Bakewell or Buxton, go sailing on Carsington Water, have fun at Alton Towers, visit The Potteries, or marvel at the sheer opulence of Chatsworth House. Stoke on Trent, Stafford and Derby are all under an hour’s drive from Hollytree Garden, giving you a fantastic base to easily access the best attractions of Ashbourne and the Peak District area.
