About The Lower Barn

Enjoy a taste of country life on Dartmoor in The Lower Barn - a cosy retreat just for two where you and your partner can enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Cook supper on your very own Aga, enjoy long walks across the moor and make breakfast from the freshest of eggs available for sale (along with home reared beef) from the farm.

Sitting in a scenic position within Dartmoor's dramatic National Park on a working hill farm where cattle, sheep and ponies graze, you are sure to return home after your stay, refreshed and recharged. Enjoy direct access to miles of footpaths and bridleways which literally run past the front door, allowing you to explore this remote and beautiful part of Dartmoor by foot. Alternatively, jump in the car and visit the areas many attractions including Princetown with its Visitors Centre and Dartmoor Prison Museum; the ancient photogenic Clapper Bridge at Postbridge; Buckfast Abbey and Dartmeet, a popular beauty spot with tourists where you will find a fabulous tea room serving superb cream teas - perfect after a long walk!

Smack bang in the middle of the Dartmoor, The Lower Barn is located at Sherberton Farm in the Swincombe Valley, and is a one-bedroom single level cottage with open-plan living and fantastic views. For the summer months, guests have a private garden with barbecue for sitting outside and soaking up the scenery and during the winter, the Aga will make the chilliest of nights cosy.

As well as walking, the local area offers good opportunities for those who enjoy horse riding, as well as excellent fly fishing when available (permits required) for salmon, seat trout and also brown trout. The landscape is simply stunning with many points of historic interest that reflect the area's heritage including old tin mines, hut circles that date as far back as the Bronze Age, Tors that this area is so famous for, along with pretty villages and churches peppering the countryside.

For those seeking complete escapism, The Lower Barn is a good choice. The nearest shops are fifteen minutes away by car at Princetown and Holne (although most of the large supermarkets deliver locally). The local pub, The Forest Inn, is within easy walking distance for lunch or dinner and there is also another pub three miles away (a good choice for lunch and a lovely cross-country walk).

The farm offers the opportunity to experience a taste of country living where you will see tractors, animals and the owners with their family enjoying and working the land. With the nearest mobile phone signal accessible approximately a mile up the lane, The Lower Barn provides the rare chance to tuck yourself away from the outside world and enjoy some quality time together.
