Humble Bee would be an incredible place to stay no matter where it was, but when you add a beautiful woodland setting on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, you have a romantic holiday retreat that is quite simply perfect. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or just want to tuck yourself away for a weekend of pure escapism and magic, Humble Bee will not dissapoint. This incredible human-size beehive offers a truly unique self-catering experience and feels wonderfully isolated surrounded by peaceful woods, yet it is only half a mile from the centre of the vibrant market town of Okehampton.
Ingeniously designed, this fairy-tale beehive is buzzing with wow-factor from the outdoor steaming bath where you can sip champagne whilst you soak amongst the trees, to the king-size bed that gives the illusion of being suspended from the ceiling. Adorned with fur throws and cushions, this cosy little hive even has a honeycomb wall and is just the sweetest of places to spend a few romantic nights away!
If you can tear yourself away from the tranquility and magic of the Humble Bee, The Old Railway Station is a hop, skip and a buzz away with its excellent cafe serving hearty breakfasts, lunch and afternoon tea. From here you can take a nostalgic trip on a steam train or hire a bike to explore the area under your own steam.
Slightly further (still under a ten minute walk) is the centre of Okehampton. On the northern tip of Dartmoor National Park it is a lively place with great amenities that include pubs, cafes, restaurants, a cinema, the Museum of Dartmoor Life, and a vintage steam train museum. The ruins of the castle, which is the oldest in Devon, enjoy an elevated position with lovely views over the town and surrounding countryside. Being able to stroll to such a wide range of amenities and attractions from Humble Bee means that you can be as spontaneous and flexible about your plans as your heart desires.
Whatever time of year you visit, getting outside and exploring the incredible scenery is a must. There are footpaths to suit all abilities and energy levels, from the four-mile circuit that passes over the Meldon Viaduct, to the challenging 24-mile Two Castles Trail between Okehampton and Launceston. The Humble Bee sits almost on top of the Granite Way cycle path (bikes can be hired locally) and the West Devon Way runs near Okehampton, while nearby Adventure Okehampton offers gorge scrambling, climbing, canoeing and abseiling.
Dotted around north Dartmoor are lovely villages and towns like Hatherleigh, with its charming cottages made from cob and thatch, and Sticklepath, where two pubs, two cafes and a thriving village store make the village a good place for lunch. Humble Bee is so wonderfully unique that your time here will leave you with incredible memories of an unforgettable romantic getaway in Devon.

Humble Bee has been skilfully created by its artistic owner, with expert craftsmanship visible everywhere. Accommodation is spread over three mezzanine style floors with a clever layout that divides the space and allows for privacy without blocking the amazing views and connection with nature.
The interior is a blend of reclaimed wood, copper, steel and cast iron, and is furnished with sumptuous fabrics to create what feels like a treehouse for grown-ups.
Prices: A nightly rate of £120 - £190 per night is charged with three night minimum breaks accepted all year round.
