About West Barn

Sojourn North offers a choice of three self-catering holiday homes, each unique in style and beautifully presented throughout. East Byre accommodates parties of up to six, West Barn (featured in this advert) up to seven and South Byre four guests, making them perfect for families, couples (one or two) and also large groups of up to ten or even seventeen when all properties are rented together.

Located within a complex of converted farm buildings at Salutation Yard, these impressive self-catering cottages are nicely tucked away in the picturesque tranquil Eden Valley, yet within easy reach of a host of attractions sitting on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Located in the unspoilt Cumbrian village of Skelton, guests have a pub in the village within a two minute stroll, as well as a public tennis court (during the warmer months) and a play area for children. The Upfront Gallery and Puppet Theatre with its vegetarian restaurant is also within walking distance and just a mile away (walking boots or wellies may be required!).

With lovely walks and bike rides amongst beautiful scenery, The Eden Valley is nicely sandwiched between the fells of the Lakes and the Pennines. It's rolling green countryside is dotted with pretty little villages which have managed to remain unspoilt and escape the crowds of busier tourist hot spots. The area is abundant with wildlife including lots of red squirrels, as well as trout and salmon on the River Eden which winds its way through the valley as it travels north to the Solway Firth. For those who enjoy fishing, canoeing or kayaking, the river offers plenty of opportunities.

Lace up your walking boots and explore miles of tracks and trails, visit the 'Long Meg and her daughters' stone circle which is the country's third largest, or sit back and soak up the scenery in a leisurely fashion with a nostalgic trip on the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway.

For those who can tear themselves away from the tranquility of the Eden Valley, Ullswater (just over ten miles) and the bustling market town of Keswick (sixteen miles) are just two of the Lake District's many attractions within easy driving distance, as is Carlisle's historic city centre and the North Pennines - another tranquil walker's paradise.

West Barn can accommodate up to seven guests (ideally five adults, two children plus space for two cots) in three bedrooms. Accommodation is split across two floors and pets may be considered in this cottage.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor

  • Hallway which is small but has room to store coats and boots. Stairs from here take you up to the first floor.
  • Bedroom with standard size single, as well as bunk beds that are slightly shorter than standard size so suitable for children. There is also space for a cot in this room which has television and large wardrobe with drawers.
  • Shower room with WC and wash basin.
  • Open-plan living area with three distinct areas for cooking, relaxing and dining. The well equipped kitchen has electric oven/hob (including extractor above), fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. There is also a washing machine in a cupboard under the stairs (plus a tumble dryer in an outside building for the shared use of guests). A dining table with stylish bench seats is in an area to the side of the kitchen. Comfy seating, wall mounted television, DVD player, iPod docking and electric 'log effect' inset fire complement the sitting area with double doors taking you out to the private patio with garden furniture for alfresco dining.

First Floor

  • Study area on the landing with desk for those who want to catch up on emails and keep in touch with the outside world.
  • Flexible bedroom with zip and link beds, chest of drawers, dressing table and wardrobe which can be found out on the landing
  • Family bathroom with freestanding bath, shower cubicle, WC and wash basin.
  • King-size master bedroom with vaulted ceiling with exposed roof trusses, adding to the charm of the room, along with television, wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers.

Outside: Guests have a secluded patio for relaxing in privacy during the warmer months, off-road parking and a secure storage space in an outbuilding where outdoor equipment, bikes etc can safely be stored.

Additional information: Pets are considered in West Barn and the other two cottages are kept pet free. Prices include heating, electricity, bed linen and towels. Short breaks (three night minimum starting on a Monday or Friday) available throughout most of the year. The owners aim to be as flexible as possible. WiFi internet access.
