Old Hare & Hounds - Low Gelt, Nr Brampton, Cumbria, England - Sleeps 6

Old Hare & Hounds

The Old Hare and Hounds holiday cottage sleeps six guests and was fully refurbished and made available for holiday letting (please note that only seven night breaks are available during high and mid season starting on a Friday - sorry but no short breaks during this period). Sitting on a small country lane in the peaceful hamlet of Low Gelt, the cottage is conveniently placed off the A69 providing easy access to Carlisle and Newcastle. Just two miles from the Cumbrian market town of Brampton, a good range of amenities are close at hand including shops, pubs and restaurants for a meal out.

Formerly part of a coaching inn (hence the name!), today the cottage offers a high level of comfort and style with all the modern conveniences needed to relax and self-cater (including en-suites in all three bedrooms and Wi-Fi internet access). Ideal for families, groups of friends and also couples who appreciate a little extra space around them, the cottage is ideal all year round with a log burner to brighten up chilly winter nights and plenty of outside space to relax when the sun shines. There is also a ground floor twin/super-king bedroom with accessible wet room for those with limited mobility.

The surrounding area has much to offer outdoor enthusiasts with an abundance of birds and wildlife (including red squirrels and even deer!). Adjacent to The Old Hare and Hounds is Gelt Woods, one of the hidden treasures of this beautiful county with its spectacular wooded riverside walks and RSPB nature reserve. As you wander through the woods you will discover old quarries which had their stone carved out by the Romans for the construction of Hadrian's Wall. Immerse yourself in eighteen hundred years of history with the chisel marks still evident in the stone today, adding to the nostalgic intrigue of this magical wooded area.

Cyclists have direct access from the front door onto Hadrian's Cycleway (route 72) which takes you to Hadrian's Wall, one of the country's most iconic landmarks and a World Heritage Site. For those wanting something a little more leisurely, the Lane End Inn is only half a mile away serving a traditional pint of ale and home cooked meals.

Attractions and days out are plentiful with not only the staggering beauty of the North Pennines within easy reach but also The Lake District National Park, Kielder Forest (spanning some two hundred and fifty miles of beauty!), South West Scotland and the Scottish Border towns - all under an hour away by car.

During high and mid season, only seven night bookings are available starting on a Friday.
