No. 6 Rowan Garth is a spacious modern townhouse in the historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Although the holiday cottage is a recent build, it's constructed from locally quarried stone and feels as if it's been a part of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for generations. It only takes a few minutes to stroll to shops, cafes, characterful pubs like The Royal Barn and The Snooty Fox, and the lovely River Lune. The three-bedroom- cottage sleeps six people with a layout that works brilliantly for families and friends.
Kirkby Lonsdale borders the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only a 20-minute drive east of the Lake District National Park. You'd think having two incredible landscapes on the doorstep would be enough. However, the town keeps delighting outdoor enthusiasts as the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Forest of Bowland AONB are also 20 minutes or less from the door. That's thousands of miles of footpaths, bridleways, waymarked cycling routes and dedicated mountain bike trails all waiting for you to explore. Start with a walk from the cottage to one of the area's most famous beauty spots. Ruskin's View is on a bend of the River Lune and is reached through St Mary's churchyard. Once you've sat and admired what Ruskin called "...one of the loveliest views in England, therefore the world", you can continue down the Radical Steps to the medieval Devil's Bridge.
Local attractions include the pretty village of Ingleton and nearby Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, White Scar Cave and the Three Peaks Trail made up of Whernside, Ingleborough, and Pen-y-Ghent. Go shopping at local markets in Kirkby Lonsdale (Thursday), Sedbergh (Wednesday), Kendal (Wednesday and Saturday), and Ulverston (Thursday and Saturday). Admire the gardens of Sizergh Estate and National Trust Acorn Bank, go sailing on Windermere, and pay your respects at Hill Top and Wordsworth House, homes of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.
Kirkby Lonsdale is a destination for all seasons. It suits everyone whether you're an adrenaline junkie, a foodie, enjoy long walks in beautiful locations, love visiting stately homes and gardens, or want to cherry-pick the best of everything. No. 6 Rowan Garth is within easy reach of it all, providing a comfortable home for you, your family and your friends to enjoy while on holiday in the Yorkshire Dales.
