Isaac’s Byre is an eco friendly holiday cottage located in a quiet hamlet a few miles from the market town of Alston. The charming old barn conversion retains its original character with exposed beams, high ceilings and lovely old fireplaces whilst providing plenty of modern day comforts for a self-catering break. The Ground Source Heat Pump ensures the cottage is kept toasty all year round and the wood burning stove and Sky TV are perfect for cosy nights in. Light floods into the bright and airy open plan living, dining and kitchen area from the large patio doors which can be thrown open on a summers’ day. With three comfortable bedrooms and three bathrooms, Isaac's Byre is perfect for couples, friends or families, whilst the ground floor bedroom and bathroom ensures guests with restricted mobility are catered for too. Two dogs are welcome, plus two extra infants, so there is no need to leave any family members behind!
You don’t need to stray far from Isaac’s Byre to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside. Walkers, cyclists and four legged friends will be pleased to know there are plenty of walks and bike rides from the front door. Plan your own route along the numerous footpaths, bridleways and quiet lanes or head to Ashgill Force waterfall which is just over a mile away. The Pennines Way and 54 kilometre Isaac’s Tea Trail are also on your doorstep. It’s hard not to be wowed by the heather clad hills, remote valleys and rugged moors. Adventurous souls looking to try something different can even try their hand at gorge walking. Alternatively, hang up your walking boots for the day and enjoy the magnificent scenery onboard a narrow gauge train at South Tyndale Railway or discover more about the area’s interesting mining past at Nenthead Mines.
The pretty market town of Alston is also worth a visit. Standing one thousand feet high, not only can you enjoy stunning views of the North Pennines, but the charming cobbled streets, quirky array of shops and good selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants makes this a lovely little town to while away an afternoon or two. Keen golfers can even play a round of golf at the highest golf course in England! If you decide you want to venture slightly further afield you can visit Hadrian’s Wall, enjoy a day out in the city of Durham, take a trip to the Lake District or even head across the Scottish border to Greta Green. Whether you are looking for an action packed holiday, or you simply want some time to relax in a tranquil setting, this beautiful part of Cumbria has something for everyone.
