Hawkrigg Cottage is a delightful two-bedroom holiday home in a beautiful location close to Kirkby Lonsdale. Sleeping four people in two bedrooms, it's ideal for a self-catering holiday in all seasons, being right on the border of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and within easy reach of the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland. The cottage's layout works well for families but is equally welcoming to couples, with short breaks and extended stays possible. You'll love the rural feel of staying on a working dairy farm in Old Town, with panoramic views of the Howgills and the Lune Valley with the promise of adventure with every sunrise.
Old Town is close enough to walk or cycle to Kirkby Lonsdale, just three miles away. The historic market town (market day is Thursday) has a fantastic variety of independently owned shops, cafes, pubs and other businesses, with all you need for a self-catering stay whether or not you feel like cooking. Kirkby Lonsdale sits beside the River Lune and boasts a 13th-Century bridge reputed to have been constructed by the Devil himself and whose handprint can be seen at the apex of one of the three stone arches. Wander through town and St Mary's churchyard, following the signs to Ruskin's View, a scene immortalised in watercolour by Turner in 1822.
Outside of town, the fells beckon walkers and cyclists alike. If it's fine, go up Clougha Pike to see as far as the Isle of Man, the southern lakes, Clwdian Hills, Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines. Climb to the trig point at Clougha Pike for panoramic views across the Lune Valley, or to Crag Hill and Great Coum to look out over Dentdale. Grizedale Forest and the Forest of Bowland have miles of challenging mountain bike trails, and there are 47 miles of caves at the summit of Gragareth.
Hawkrigg Cottage is a great place to escape for peace and relaxation, yet also suitable for those who love being outdoors and active in all weathers. Whether staying for a few days or a few weeks, you'll fall in love with the cottage and the area.
