About Grange Court Mews

Grange Court Mews is a pretty Georgian Lazonby sandstone holiday cottage in a beautiful location. Dating from the early 1800s, the property has a rich history, including being home to John Lennon's first wife and oldest son. The owners have carefully restored and renovated the property to provide a high standard of self-catering accommodation for couples and solo travellers. Guests love the luxurious furnishings, the period features, and the tranquil location a short walk from The Kings Arms pub in Temple Sowerby. It couldn't be better for a holiday in the north Lake District and the North Pennines AONB, being only a few miles from both.

Temple Sowerby is in the Eden Valley with endless miles of footpaths and views that will take your breath away. The village's name stems from the renowned Knights Templar, owners of the original manor house. Although the manor is long gone, the community has retained its historic charm with Georgian and Victorian properties centred around a maypole on the green. Penrith is barely seven miles or a 10-minute drive from the cottage, offering all you could need in the way of shops and places to eat and drink. Alternatively, drive seven miles in the opposite direction to Appleby-in-Westmoreland, famous for its annual horse fair but worth a visit at any time of the year.

Walking and cycling are two favourite ways to explore this beautiful and diverse landscape. There are mountains to admire and climb, lakes for fishing, kayaking, swimming and paddleboarding, a wealth of bridleways and mountain bike trails, and swooping roads that will leave you exhilarated whether you drive, motorbike, or cycle along their undulating curves. Golfers have a choice of courses, while adrenaline lovers can plan the adventure of their dreams. Local attractions include Penrith Castle, the Settle to Carlisle Railway, Hadrian's Wall, Gretna Green, and the Solway Coast.

Grange Court Mews is a separate wing of the owner's home, The Grange. It is completely private and self-contained. Holiday bookings are available all year round.

Grange Court Mews is a former servant's wing and stables and dates back 200 years. The owners have completely renovated it from top to bottom, incorporating period-appropriate features, like sash windows, with modern conveniences.


  • Traditional black and white tiles line the large entrance hallway and lead you into the open plan living room, dining area and kitchen.
  • Relax in front of the log burner in the sumptuous velvet wingback chairs and your favourite film on the TV.
  • Small but perfectly formed, the kitchenette has all you need for simple self-catering, including an integrated wall oven.


  • A spacious bedroom features an elegant king-sized bed with beautiful linen, a built-in wardrobe and a chest of drawers for storage, and a low dressing room chair.
  • The modern tiled shower room has a rainfall showerhead, heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: Sit in the sheltered walled garden and enjoy the sunshine and birdsong. There is a large Courtyard with plenty of room for one or two vehicles and guests can use a locked garage to store bicycles, motorcycles and other outdoor equipment on request. The garden and Courtyard are shared with the owner.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. Smoking is not permitted.
