Windermere is surrounded by beautiful countryside with far-reaching views from the house and garden. With its light, spacious rooms and open-play layout, it feels far bigger than a typical one-bedroom cottage and is a fantastic place where couples can escape and unwind with country walks, including a stroll to The Royal Oak pub a mile away in Gretton.
Gretton is a friendly village on the northern border of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its peaceful location is only a twenty-minute drive from Cheltenham's shops, businesses and restaurants giving visitors the ideal mix of town and country. There are excellent amenities just two miles away in Winchcombe, a pretty market town that was once the Anglo Saxon capital of Mercia. Browse the boutiques, enjoy tea at a welcoming cafe or stop by the deli to gather supplies for a riverside picnic.
The number of nearby grand houses and estates shows that this area has been a favourite with the well-heeled for decades. Sudeley Castle, Hailes Abbey and Snowshill Manor are all within a few miles of Windermere, as is Hidcote Garden. Other attractions within easy reach include the Cotswold Farm Park and the beautiful Regency shopping district of Montpellier in Cheltenham with its variety of upmarket boutiques. Tewkesbury and Cirencester are also close enough to pop by for a spot of lunch and sightseeing.
The Cotswolds are the perfect holiday destination because there is so much within a relatively small radius. Ancient market towns and villages look welcoming even on a grey day in winter thanks to the famous honey-hued Cotswold stone used in construction, while the rolling countryside is ideal for relaxed walks and bike rides. There are miles of footpaths and cycleways linking beautiful sights and beauty spots, including to Belas Knap, the Roman Villa and to the top of Broadway Tower.
Short breaks are possible at Windermere so even if you only have a few days to spare then you can still escape for a romantic weekend a deux within reach of beautiful walks, country pubs, excellent shops and delicious food.
