About Downhouse Farm

Downhouse Farm is a welcoming farmhouse on a family-run farm just across the border of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Before being renovated to become a comfortable holiday cottage that can sleep eight to ten people in four bedrooms, the dog-friendly Grade II listed farmhouse was the owner's cherished family home and arriving here feels relaxing and familiar, even if you have never visited Gloucestershire before. The house's location less than a mile from Dursley gives visitors direct access to miles of footpaths and best-loved views and is also close to historic towns and villages.

The Cotswold Way stretches for 102 glorious miles from Chipping Campden to Bath and passes close by Downhouse Farm. Cam Peak is only a short walk from the front door, rewarding the effort of climbing the hill with far-reaching views over Longdown towards the River Severn. A folder detailing some of the owner's favourite walks is waiting in the cottage, ready to help visitors plan their next adventure.

There is plenty for visitors of all ages to enjoy during their stay at Downhouse Farm, making it ideal if you are on holiday with different generations of your extended family, or with friends who have different interests. Favourite local attractions for a fun-filled day outdoors include Slimbridge Wetlands and Westonbirt Arboretum. Cattle Country Adventure is an excellent all-weather destination as it has both indoor and outdoor attractions, as is magnificent Berkeley Castle and Woodchester Park and Mansion.

The ancient city of Gloucester, with its medieval cathedral and historic docks, is excellent for a day's shopping, sightseeing and lunch. The docks have a choice of waterfront pubs and restaurants and two museums (the Gloucester Waterways Museum and the Old Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum) and are close to the Gloucester Quays Designer Outlet.

Despite its relaxed, rural setting, Downhouse Farm is easy to reach via road or train, and close to some of the areas best sights and attractions. It is simple to unwind in these beautiful surroundings, planning activities that can range from remote walks through the countryside to dinner and the theatre, all within only a few miles of the front door.

Location (The Cotswolds)

Accommodation Comprises:

Downhouse Farm is an 18th-Century Grade II listed house on a small farm with very little passing traffic. It was formerly the owner's home and was updated and refurbished when they downsized to a more modest cottage on the estate.

Downstairs:

  • Enter through a covered porch and into a spacious hallway where there is a staircase directly in front of you and reception rooms on either side.
  • Large living room with a feature fireplace and log burner, L-shaped sofa and a TV with a DVD player.
  • Second sitting room next to the kitchen and connected by a hatch that parents can leave open if they are cooking but need to keep an eye on the kids. This room has a gas-fired stove, wooden floors and original shutters, and comfortable seating where you can relax and watch TV.
  • Country kitchen with tiled floor, AGA range cooker, separate oven and stove, dishwasher and a tall fridge/freezer. The farmhouse table in the centre is perfect for family meals, while the window overlooks the garden.
  • Boot room where you can dry shoes, coats and muddy paws and safely store bicycles.
  • Utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, with a door leading to a cloakroom with WC and handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Spacious master bedroom with a king-sized bed handcrafted from reclaimed timber, ample storage and an ensuite with a rainfall shower, WC and handbasin. A big window looks out onto the garden and countryside, and the original fireplace is a lovely decorative feature.
  • A second bedroom has two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds and a pine rocking chair. Perfect for children, the soft grey and yellow decor is also appropriate for older guests.
  • Two further bedrooms each have a super king-sized zip-link bed that can be separated into two single beds. One of these rooms has a small side room with a chair and space for a travel cot, while the other has room for a small single bed to allow the room to sleep three guests.
  • Family bathroom with a rainfall shower over the bath, WC and handbasin.

Outside: Enclosed garden with a lawn that is ideal for games, and mature trees for shade and added privacy. A gravel drive at the front of the farmhouse has parking for multiple cars.

Additional Information: All utilities, sheets, towels and WiFi are included. Two of the bedrooms have a flexible layout - please let the owners know your preference when booking. Short breaks are possible all year round (two night minimum), depending on availability. Well behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement. Smoking is not permitted.
