About Cuckoo’s Nest

Cuckoo’s Nest enjoys an enviable riverfront position on the award-winning Lower Mill Estate, surrounded by 550 acres of peaceful nature reserve. With four spacious bedrooms plus room for two cots, there is ample space for large families or groups of friends to escape to these beautiful surroundings. With all the benefits of an upmarket holiday park on your doorstep, combined with the space and peace of a private home, Cuckoo’s Nest is nothing short of perfection.

The Lower Mill Estate is one of the most sought after in the Cotswolds. All of the architect-designed properties nestled around Clearwater Lake have been designed to enhance family time with fantastic open-plan spaces that make the most of the incredible views. In addition to having a village shop, restaurant and luxury spa on site, the estate is less than a mile from the centre of Somerford Keynes, where the 17th Century Bakers Arms pub is a favourite with locals and visitors.

The Roman town of Cirencester is only six miles away with plenty of opportunities to shop, eat and be entertained. Kids love the Corinium Museum where they can see genuine Roman artefacts and take part in the family activities run during the school holidays. Cirencester Park on the Bathurst Estate is perfect for a long walk, or contact the local riding school where you can arrange a guided hack on a friendly horse.

Lower Mill Estate has lovely lakeside walks, canoeing, boating and fishing on site. You can bring your bikes or hire some there, taking advantage of the network of private paths that traverse the estate and were designed to enable residents and visitors to enjoy this incredible environment with its water, a play area, woodlands and meadows. The Activity Hub, where you can hire canoes, kayaks and other equipment, also runs regular family-friendly activities. If all that was not enough, the Cotswold Country Park and Beach is nearby with lots more water-based fun, and there are several nearby golf courses which welcome visitors.

The Cotswolds AONB has been a favourite holiday destination for generations, and it has perfected the ideal blend of town and country. Here, you can feel like you are completely getting away from it all, with fresh air and long country walks on the doorstep, yet it is less than two hours from London and easily accessed from the Midlands, Wales and the south. The owners at Cuckoo’s Nest have created a luxurious haven where families and friends can forget about everything and focus on enjoying time together.

Accommodation Comprises:

The accommodation at Cuckoo's Nest is upside down, with the bedrooms on the ground floor and the living area upstairs, making the most of the ample natural light and stunning views. The house is fresh and modern, and decorated and furnished to a very high standard throughout.

Ground Floor:

  • A spacious double room has a comfortable king-sized bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, as well as a wardrobe and chest of drawers so you can unpack and really feel at home. In addition to an ensuite with a bath, WC and handbasin, the room benefits from secure sliding glass doors that frame the waterside views and open directly onto a private sun terrace.
  • There are two twin bedrooms, each with two 3ft single beds and a walk-in wardrobe. One of the bedrooms enjoys a quiet position at the front of the house, while the other is at the rear with views of the lake and access to the sun terrace.
  • The family shower room has a corner shower, WC, handbasin and heated towel rail.

First Floor:

  • Main living space which is open plan and elegantly furnished with three-seater and two-seater leather sofas positioned around the log burning stove. Wooden floorboards and floor to ceiling windows amplify the natural light and lovely views, making this an area to where people naturally gravitate. The sliding doors open onto an enclosed balcony where there is a table with chairs to sit and enjoy the view.
  • The owners have provided a range of books and family board games, and there is also a television with a games console. Being bored is not an option here!
  • Dining room area which sits comfortably between the double height ceiling of the living room and the fully-fitted kitchen. The table and chairs easily seat up to eight people, with room for a high chair if required.
  • Catering is a dream in the Cuckoo's Nest's luxury kitchen. The owners have ensured you have everything you need whether you are cooking a full Sunday dinner for eight or searching for a corkscrew.

Second Floor:

  • The second floor is reserved for the master bedroom which looks over living space to the lake beyond through a double glazed window with curtains for privacy. The room has a king-sized bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. An armchair is perfect if you want a peaceful 15-minutes to read.
  • Master bedroom with an ensuite with a large walk-in shower, WC, heated towel rail and handbasin.

Outside: Cuckoo's Nest is at the end of a quiet road with no passing traffic, so it is safe for children to play and ride their bikes outside without fear of cars. There is off street parking for several cars. Guests have full access to the estate's outdoor facilities which include an enormous play area with equipment to suit different aged children, and a variety of surfaces for different ball games. The ArtSpa has indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and the Activity Centre can arrange hire of a wide choice of sporting equipment including bikes and canoes.

Additional Information: Cuckoo's Nest has central heating and WiFi. All utilities, linen and towels (not beach towels) are included, and the owners also provide a welcome pack so you can put the kettle on and enjoy a drink as soon as you arrive.
