About Jopes Lodge

Jopes Lodge is a place where you can blissfully withdraw from the real world. The gorgeous retreat is ideal for couples or individuals who want to surround themselves with beauty. Once an artist's studio, the open-plan cottage sits in a secluded valley next to the River Seaton, surrounded by five private acres of grounds that include gardens and woodland. It's easy to see how such an environment inspires creativity. Despite feeling peaceful and secluded, the lodge is only 10 minutes from the popular fishing town of Looe where there is a wealth of amenities that include shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. A riverside walk takes you to an excellent pub in only half an hour.

It's always the right time to visit Cornwall. Looe's picturesque harbour is a great place to start your exploration of the town, though you may find that you lose time while happily sitting and crabbing or watching the fishing boats go about their business. The town is separated by a bridge spanning the river from east to west, with the eastern side having a sandy beach and the western coastline lots of rock pools. The town's attractions include the museum, which is of historical interest itself, dating from the 1400s and being a former gaol and courthouse. Don't miss a trip to Looe Island to see the seals and take the five-mile route along the South West Coast Path to Polperro for breathtaking views. There are two golf courses and a pony trekking centre all within just a few miles.

Other local attractions include Bodmin Gaol and the Jamaican Inn, both of which are reputed to be haunted, the Eden Project, Talland Bay, and The Monkey Sanctuary. Plymouth is only half an hour's drive from Jopes Lodge, so you can easily fit in a day's shopping and sightseeing in this historic naval city.

Many visitors to Jopes Lodge find their surroundings so relaxing that they're happy to sit on the deck or, in the winter, by the log burner. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the grounds, or grab a blanket, light the fire pit and enjoy stargazing under clear skies.

Jopes Lodge Noticeboard

We have been using the lockdown to make Jopes Lodge an even better place for your holiday. We have built a number of new garden benches so that you can enjoy time by the lake or in the woods. Also we have created a new woodland trail through our wooded hillside, ready for the carpet of bluebells which will come in early April. At the same time we have been building up the stocks of wood for the wood burner in the Lodge next winter.
