Cornwall’s stunning coastline provides the perfect playground for kids and adults alike. Small children will delight in burying your shoes in the sand, digging a moat around their sandcastle and giggling as the waves splash over their toes. There are numerous charming fishing villages, small sandy coves and picture-perfect family beaches. If you are looking for an archetypal crescent shaped golden sandy beach head to Pendower Beach on the Roseland Peninsula. Enjoy a day of rock pooling, snorkelling, paddling and picnicking before heading around the corner to the fishing village of St Mawes for an evening of crabbing on the quayside followed by a harbourside culinary treat at The Watch House.

Bigger adventurous kids will love the challenge of catching some waves or trying a new activity in one of the many watersports centres dotted along the coastline. There are numerous surf spots in Cornwall, but it is easy to see why Newquay, on the north coast, is dubbed the UK’s surf capital. The seven miles of golden sand, consistent Atlantic swell and plethora of surf schools makes Newquay the perfect spot for an action-packed family holiday by the sea. For those not yet ready to tackle the ocean the Flowrider simulator near Padstow is the perfect introduction to surfing.

Whilst Cornwall’s coastline is undoubtedly one of its’ biggest draws there are plenty of fun-filled family activities to enjoy when you are done with the sand between your toes. Arguably Cornwall’s top family attraction is the Eden project in St. Austell. Kids will be wowed by the breath-taking views from the rainforest canopy walkway as you venture through swirling clouds and shelter from tropical rainstorms. Head outside to the gardens to find hidden gems and clues dotted around the family trail. For the ultimate adventure, older kids can test their metal as they fly above the biomes on England’s longest and fastest zipwire.

Combine Cornish history and fascinating folklores with stunning landscapes and space to run free at one of Cornwall’s many castles. Set high on the rugged north Cornish coast, the rambling ruins, atmospheric caves and spectacular waterfalls at Tintagel Castle is hard to beat. Steeped in mystery and myths, kids’ imaginations will run wild as they explore this special spot. Or visit the magical treasure island on St Michael’s Mount. Children will be captivated as they walk in the footsteps of giants, challenge themselves on the treasure quest and follow the I Spy trails in the garden.

Any intrepid explorers can scale a tor on Bodmin Moor or budding cyclists will love the Camel Trail, a traffic-free cycle path running along the Camel estuary from Bodmin to Padstow. Animal and wildlife lovers might prefer to visit the Monkey and Seal Sanctuaries or keep the whole family entertained at the Camel Creek Adventure Park.

The combination of bucket and spade days on the beach, adventurous activities, rolling lush countryside, local history and fantastic food makes Cornwall the perfect family friendly holiday destination. Most of our Cornwall family holiday cottages are well equipped with high chairs, cots and stair gates, and many even have games rooms, playgrounds and swimming pools. Stay right on the beach, in a cute harbour town, on a farm for a taste of country life or relax in the peaceful Cornish countryside. Wherever you stay, we guarantee you will return again and again to this magical corner of the country.
