About Boskernyk

Boskernyk will become one of your favourite holiday memories. This unique property started life as a vintage coach that has been incorporated into the fabric of the building to create a one-of-a-kind property perfect for couples or solo adventurers who want to stay somewhere with quirk and character. The cottage is in Porthtowan on the north coast of Cornwall and enjoys fantastic views thanks to its elevated cliff-top location. The beach, village shop and two pubs are all within walking distance, and the cottage is dog-friendly.

Porthtowan is at the southern point of the St Agnes Heritage Coast, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its Blue Flag beach is one of the county's favourite surfing spots, and one of the benefits of staying at Boskernyk is that you can check the surf out as you drink your morning coffee from the deck. While the beach is undeniably busier in the summer months, it rarely feels crowded and you'll always find space to spread out your towel and sunbathe. It's possible to walk along the sand to Chapel Porth at low tide, or stroll down in the evening and sit with a drink at the beachfront bar and cafe. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round with the usual restrictions between May and September.

Surfboard hire and lessons are available in the spring and summer, and it's possible to hire a bicycle locally so you can travel light and still enjoy some of the best activities Porthtowan offers. Walking is another favourite outdoor pastime and the South West Coast Path from Porthtowan to Portreath passes evidence of the region's former mining industry. Boskernyk was built in the 1930s by a miner, so you're closer to this part of Cornwall's heritage than most visitors! Stop at St Agnes Head and watch the hang gliders, and keep your eyes open for razorbills and kittiwakes.

Cornwall's shape means that it's only ten miles from Porthtowan on the north coast, to places like Devoran on the south coast, which sits at the mouth of the River Fal. You can drive to Truro in about 20 minutes, and Falmouth in 30 minutes. There is such a wide choice of activities and attractions within a half-an-hour drive of the cottage that you can easily plan a holiday packed with fun activities.

There's never a better time to plan your holiday to Cornwall. The diverse landscape is incredible in every season, while the towns and villages are full of entertaining attractions, fantastic restaurants, thriving markets and independent shops. Boskernyk is cosy without feeling claustrophobic, with plenty of space for one or two people, sensational views and amenities within easy reach.

Accommodation Comprises:

Boskernyk was built by its original owner in the 1930s. It has been carefully modernised to retain its character while providing a high standard of accommodation over one level. The cottage is on hill so there are steps to the door and the garden slopes.

  • Taller guests may need to duck their head when they enter the sitting room, which is in the coach part of the cottage and has a gorgeous curved wooden roof. Glass French doors at the end open up onto a balcony to extend the living space outside and provide incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean. Keep the doors closed and settle back on the sofa to watch the waves whipped up by winter winds.
  • Expect more amazing views from the kitchen/diner. You'll happily spend a lot of time in here, relaxing over lazy breakfasts as you watch the birds swooping around the cliff, or warming yourself in front of the log burner with a drink after a blustery winter's walk. The kitchen has everything guests need to cook and serve delicious meals.
  • You'll sleep like a log in the comfortable double bed, drifting off to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. The bedroom has lovely countryside views, built-in wardrobe, and bedside table with reading lights.
  • Wash the salt and sand away in the shower room, which makes great use of the available space. The WC and handbasin are separate.

Outside: In addition to the balcony, the cottage has a garden with a slightly sloping area of lawn. There is off-road parking for one car.

Additional Information: All utilities, fuel for the wood-burner, bed linen and bath towels are provided, with guests to supply beach towels if required. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with the owner's prior agreement. Smoking is not permitted. Tall people over 5ft 7 will need to take care in the cottage as there is a low beam between the kitchen into the conservatory and it can be low in places.

Accessibility: Please note there are steps up to the house from the parking area and three steps down from the kitchen to the conservatory.
