About Y Bwthyn

Y Bwthyn is a charming piece of Cardigan's history. The pretty stone cottage was the home of the beloved Welsh bard, Dewi Emrys, who lived in Talgarreg in later life with his daughter. While the current owners have brought the accommodation right up to date to a 4 Star standard (Visit Wales), they haven't done so at the expense of original features, including exposed stone and reassuringly solid oak beams. There is space for two adults and two children to sleep in two bedrooms, with the layout being especially suited to couples and families. The excellent Glanyrafon Arms is conveniently close, as is the beautiful coastline of Cardigan Bay.

Wales is a wonderfully hospitable country. Welsh is widely spoken in mid and west Wales. Music, art, and poetry are strongly linked to the national identity, especially in Ceredigion, where the Eisteddfod is one of the most important dates in the calendar. It isn't all about culture - this region offers huge potential for excitement and adventure. Walk along the breathtaking Ceredigion Coastal Path, charter a boat and go fishing, or book a seat on a dolphin and wildlife spotting tour. Cycle for miles along purpose-built cycle paths, rolling roads and through wild countryside, or try your hand at canoeing or go-karting. All of these activities are readily accessible within a small radius of Y Bwythyn, ensuring you never have to hear the words "I'm bored!"

It doesn't matter what time of the year you stay at Y Bwthyn because you won't be able to stay away from the beach. Pack a picnic and head for the sandy shoreline of Tresaith, Llangrannog and Penbryn. New Quay has four beaches and the Marine Wildlife Centre. It's impossible to choose the wrong place to go, as each beach is as impressive as the next. Surf schools run in the summer holidays, and surfboard and SUP hire are widely available. Day trips can include visiting Cardigan Castle, wandering around the lanes of Aberystwyth, and visiting museums and historic properties like National Trust Llanerchaeron.

Y Bwthyn, which translates from Welsh as "The Cottage", is available all year round for bookings. Most visitors book for a week, but short stays are available, depending on availability, so you can enjoy a break in this blissfully idyllic part of Britain even if you only have a long weekend.
