Barn Owl Cottage is deep in the heart of the rolling countryside outside Carmarthen. The cottage has a private garden and is on a 15-acre property with no passing traffic so guests have all of the peace and quiet they could want to stop, unwind and relax. The cottage sleeps up to six guests in three very comfortable bedrooms and is a mile's gentle stroll from the village pub, the Red Lion. It is perfect for families and friends, but with a ground floor double bedroom and wet room, it is also suitable for couples.
The cottage is near Kidwelly, in the friendly rural village of Llandyfaelog. Kidwelly sits beside the Gwedraeth River and is best known for its imposing Norman castle which, although in ruins, remains impressive. The tinplate works at Kidwelly Museum are the oldest in Britain, and the town also has a supermarket, farm shop and cafe, and a range of other amenities. Just a few miles away, Carmarthen is a flourishing community and reputed to be the oldest town in Wales. The Romans called Carmarthen "Moridumum", or "sea fort" and it was a favourite resting point on the long road between east and west. In addition to it's imposing Norman castle, Carmarthen has a regular weekly market, shops, restaurants and pubs.
Carmarthen and the surrounding area offer something for everyone and every season. Buy a day license and idle away a few hours fishing by the bank of the river that flows close to Barn Owl Cottage, or put on your comfortable walking shoes to explore the many miles of footpaths linking beauty spots and places of interest. Cycling is another favourite way to spend a sunny day, while golfers won't mind what the weather is doing when they tee off. For somewhere so relaxed, Carmarthenshire has a surprising link to going fast! There is horse racing at Ffos Las and motor racing at Pembury, or saddle up and let your horse run across the miles of flat sand at Pendine.
The Carmarthenshire Coast is picture-perfect. Cefn Sidan is a Blue Flag beach only a few miles from the cottage with seven miles of golden sands, sheltering dunes and clear waters perfect for swimming. It is part of Pembury Country Park which, with woodland walks, a playground, mini-golf, pony trekking and dry ski slope, is a fun family day out.
Holidaymakers who head to Carmarthenshire year after year will tell you that there is no better place to spend time relaxing with your family or friends.
