About Old Coach House

The Old Coach House is a self-catering holiday home with healing properties. Guests can leave seemingly heavy cares at the door only to find they have disappeared by the end of their stay. The 18th Century property sits in the spectacular surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park in the quiet hamlet of Cathedine. It sleeps nine people in five bedrooms and boasts sensational views from the house and grounds. The layout suits large and extended families and groups of friends who come for the landscape and who happily leave a little part of their hearts behind.

Cathedine is a fantastic location for a holiday as it is incredibly tranquil without the inconvenience of being remote. There's a village shop and pub just over a mile away in Bwlch while two miles from the cottage Llangorse has two pubs and a busy shop. Having the biggest natural lake in Wales, Llangorse is a hub of activity all year round. Bring your own or hire a sailboat, dingy, kayak or SUP from the activity centre and take to the water. The lake area is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, so it is a haven for birds and wildlife. Nearby, the Llangorse Activity Centre offers pony trekking and climbing and is a great place to have fun with family and friends, trying something new or improving existing skills.

The Brecon Beacons are renowned for their walking and mountain bike trails. Staying at The Old Coach House puts you near Pen-y-Fan, the Sugarloaf, Tabletop Mountain and the Skirrid. More gentle routes wind their way beside the River Usk and around Llantony Priory, with interesting routes around Llanbedr and Forest Coal Pit. There are enough castles in various states of repair to delight any historian and places like 14th Century Partishow Church built beside St Ishow's well or the pre-Christian wells in Llanover Park.

Shopping for your self-catering stay will be a pleasure. Browse Crickhowell's fiercely-independent High Street, where you'll find an excellent butcher, extremely well-stocked wine shop, and traditional grocer and bakery together with cafes, pubs and a popular chip shop. Continue for a few miles south to the vibrant market town of Abergavenny. Market days are Tuesday, Friday and Saturday but there are three supermarkets and lots of shops if you are there on other days. Hay-on-Wye is another top choice for browsing, though more for books than food as it is Britain's first designated Book Town. Brecon has a big supermarket and a great variety of places to eat and drink.
