Following an extensive restoration and rebuild in 2010, Bridge cottage was recently awarded the coveted 5 Star rating by Visit England. A country cottage offering the finest of finishes in a stunning location overlooking Oliver Gill.

When you visit Dentdale you will find yourself emerged in stunning scenery, natural beauty, deep heritage and the culture of a Dales community that has over many years attracted painters, poets and musicians. Dentdale provides the perfect place to escape the pressures of everyday life but is also ideally situated within the Yorkshire Dales, on the edge of Cumbria, allowing easy access for exploring not only the Dales, but also Cumbria and its many attractions including the Lake District (approximately fifteen miles away).

Here you can relax and unwind amongst breath taking scenery, spend your days strolling through lush riverside pastures and beautiful meadows, or exploring the towns and hills in the nearby Dales and Lakes - every day escaping the crowds to return back to your own little corner of peace and tranquillity.

There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in the area. Walking in Dentdale provides the opportunity to explore the local area and see the best of the beautiful countryside, which is rich in wildlife, flora and fauna. There are numerous footpaths to explore where you can follow the Heritage Trail through the beautiful wooded gully of Flintergill or enjoy a more leisurely stroll along the River Dee. Dentdale is also a good base for those who enjoy cycling with both on and off-road routes to cater for all energy levels. The Pennine and Yorkshire Dales Cycleways both pass through Dentdale and the quiet country lanes are ideal for a more relaxing ride.

The Settle-Carlisle Railway also passes through Dentdale and is one of the most wonderful railway journeys in the world, stopping at Dent Station which is Englands highest mainline station. You can take a train to Carlisle or Leeds for a great day out and and sit back and enjoy the spectacular views of the Yorkshire Dales and Pennines on your way.

Dent Village has a Heritage Centre which reveals the working lives of the dale's people since 16th Century and the Meditation Centre provides an ideal place for quiet contemplation. Three pubs and two cafes also provide places to enjoy a meal or refreshment.

With wonderful walking, spectacular scenery and so many places within easy each both within the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria, you are sure to want to return time and time again to this peaceful paradise.

Located in the hamlet of Gawthrop and just one mile from the idyllic cobbled village of Dent, this recently refurbished holiday home accommodates up to six guests (or eight if the adjoining Hazel Cottage is also booked). Here you can enjoy a peaceful corner of the Yorkshire Dales where you can relax and unwind. With fantastic views and multi-fuel stove, this is an ideal place for friends or family to enjoy a holiday at any time of the year.

Accommodation comprises:

Front porch for coats and boots, leading through to an open plan ground floor.
Living area with multi fuel stove to compliment the independent central heating. Large wall mounted flat screen television with Freeview channels and Wi-Fi access.
Straight ahead is an oak staircase to the first floor, to the left is the hallway leading through to the dining area, which in turn leads to the stone floored kitchen area with under floor heating.
Off the hallway is a door through to a utility area with a power shower, WC and wash hand basin.
The kitchen is fully equipped and has French doors through to the patio and garden.
Upstairs there are two king-sized double rooms and one twin room all with views.
Bespoke family bathroom with roll top bath, separate power shower, WC and wash hand basin.

Outside: Bridge Cottage looks out on to a walled area and a hump back bridge reputably built by Oliver Cromwell. Through the French Doors to a paved patio with outdoor seating, looking down the pasture and across to Rise Hill. Suspended above the Western gable is an elevated walkway and viewing deck looking down on Oliver Gill, where you can hear a gentle stream trickling over the limestone rock’s and fish pools, or a spectacular raging torrent heading down to the River Dee below. The road width doubles just over the bridge offering several free parking places.

Additional information: Heating, electricity, a multi-fuel stove fuel allowance and all bedding (inc towels) are included in the rental. A cot is available – please bring your own bedding for the cot. Weekend bookings accepted November to March. One medium size dog allowed (must be restricted to the ground floor).
