Croxford Cottage is an 18th Century stone holiday cottage that can sleep up to four guests in two bedrooms. It is located in the peaceful village of Preston under Scar and faces South across Wensleydale with all principal bed rooms having a sunny aspect.
Preston under Scar is a charming peaceful village which reflects its mining and agricultural history within its landscape of rolling countryside and pretty stone terraces with cottage gardens. It offers many visitor-friendly activities which are centered around the village hall and there is also a Church and a children's playground. There is a pub within one and a half miles.
The villages elevated hillside position gives spectacular views over Bishopdale, Wensleydale and beyond to the Vale of York. There are plenty of walking opportunities within this rural area with several walks going direct from the cottage. You can even walk to Bolton Castle (four miles) where in 1568, Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned. There is a bus service through the village to Leyburn and Hawes, allowing for linear walks.
The market town of Leyburn is a good shopping centre with supermarket and many pubs and it is just three miles away. Middleham Castle is approximately four miles and the Waterfalls at Aysgarth, Hardraw and West Burton are nearby. The towns of Richmond (eight miles) and Hawes (fifteen miles) are worth visiting and within easy reach.
The City of York, Durham and Harrogate are within fifty miles and The East coast is approximately a two hour drive with Scarborough and Whitby being within seventy five miles.
Other local attractions include: The Forbidden Corner; the racing stables at Middleham; the Wensleydale Railway (steam trains run during school summer holidays); Jervaulx Abbey; golf at Catterick Garrison Golf Club and horse riding locally at Wensleydale Equestrian Centre.

Accommodation comprises:
Bedroom one with double bed and en-suite bathroom.
Bedroom two with twin beds -all beds have electric blankets and both bedrooms have window seats looking across Wensleydale to Penhill.
En-suite bathroom to bedroom one with WC, basin and over-bath shower.
Downstairs cloakroom with WC, handbasin and an automatic washing machine.
Kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, hand mixer and breakfast bar with stools plus a dining table seating four (extra chairs available).
Lounge with multi-fuel stove, television, DVD, video players (and a selection of films) and stereo system with CD player.
Additional small room downstairs which was the former dairy and can be used as an occasional single bedroom, but not suitable for those with limited mobility.
Additional information: Towels and linen included. Cleaning and linen changed weekly. Coal and logs are provided for the stove. The cottage has an electric boiler which provides central heating by radiators. All electricity costs are included. One well behaved pet welcome. No smoking inside the cottage please. On street parking immediately outside the cottage. There is a small south facing front garden, with a stone seat (a 'bink'), an ideal spot for coffee on a sunny morning.
