Cherry Bank is a charming ground floor holiday apartment located in the picturesque village of Bainbridge, in Wensleydale, at the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Originally a barn, and more recently the village institute, the cottage overlooks the pretty village green with views to the hills beyond. It has been equipped and furnished to a high standard whilst retaining its original charm with features including exposed stonework, beams and a lovely woodburning stove, for those cosy winter evenings.
Located in the centre of the National Park, Cherry Bank is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding area. The bustling market town of Hawes is 5 minutes away, with its famous Wensleydale Creamery, ropemaker, Dales Countryside Museum and recently restored Gayle Mill (as featured in the BBC "Restoration" programme). Nearby attractions include Aysgarth Falls, Semer Water, the village of Askrigg (where "All Creatures Great and Small" was filmed) and the magnificent Hardraw Force waterfall.
For those who enjoy walking, you will not be disappointed with numerous country walks from the front door, either in the lush river valley or on the more rugged surrounding hills. A firm favourite is the walk alongside the tumbling River Bain to Semer Water, Yorkshire's largest natural lake, nestling in a bowl of sheltering hills.
Bainbridge itself is one of England's loveliest villages and boasts a pub, a tearoom and a hotel/restaurant, together with a small shop, a traditional butcher and a tiny filling station. The village, which is overlooked by the site of a Roman fort, clusters round the extensive village green with its stocks, where the villagers can be seen playing quoits on a summer's evening. The River Bain - the shortest river in England - flows through the middle of the village down a series of cascades, which are particularly spectacular after heavy rain.
Wensleydale is known as "the queen of the Dales" and holds a string of picturesque and interesting small towns and villages, with many fine country pubs and tearooms. Slightly further afield, places such as Richmond, Masham, Ripon and York are all within easy distance and are well worth a visit.
The Yorkshire dales offers a spectacular landscape to explore and a multitude of attractions and places of interest to visit.
