The Manse is conveniently located less than two minutes walk from Marlborough's historic high street in Wiltshire. This Victorian holiday cottage has been totally renovated and has wooden floors, a new kitchen, wonderful new shower room and two comfortable bedrooms accommodating up to four guests (plus two if the sofa bed is used).
Ideally located, The Manse is perfect for exploring the whole area. Marlborough has the widest high street in the country and is packed with antique shops, restaurants, bars and chic shops, all on your doorstep! It is a thriving market town and hosts the internationally acclaimed ‘Jazz Festival’ in July. It is also well known for its famous ‘Marlborough College’.
In the heart of Wiltshire, Marlborough is within easy driving distance of Salisbury, Stonehenge, Devizes, Lacock, Avebury, Silbury Hill, The West Kennet Long Barrow, Bath and the Salisbury Plain. The Kennet and Avon Canal is seven miles south of Marlborough and The Cotswold's are close by. South Wales and the coast are also within easy reach.
Wiltshire is the county that many people drive through on their way to Devon or Cornwall, yet it has so much history and stunning countryside of its own. From Marlborough you can enjoy romantic walks along the Ridgeway or Wansdyke. The downs are perfect for mountain biking; Savernake Forest on the edge of Marlborough is fabulous for walking, cycling or just relaxing and the Salisbury Plain is ideal for walking, cycling or bird watching. It is not surprising that time and time again, the BBC and film producers return to Wiltshire, to Lacock and Castle Combe in particular, for period dramas.
The historic City of Bath has many unique shops, the Roman Baths, the Abbey, Royal Crescent and the river - all worth a visit. Salisbury has the most beautiful Cathedral and shopping centre and a little further south is the New Forest. Beyond is the coast at Bournemouth with its famous Sand Banks peninsular and beach. All close enough for a day trip.
The Cotswold's with its quintessential villages and historic towns is to the North. East are the small towns of Newbury and Hungerford, and Oxford is about fifty miles away. There are main line railway stations at Great Bedwyn (five to seven miles away), Hungerford, Pewsey and Swindon. To the West is Lacock (Pride and Prejudice), Castle Combe (Dr Dolittle) and Bowood house (with its adventure playground, golf course, house and grounds).
