Afan Cottage is located amongst the stunning scenery of the Afan Valley on the edge of the village of Blaengwynfi. It is surrounded by hills with spectacular views and provides comfortable accommodation for up to eight guests in three bedrooms (plus sofabed). Downstairs there is a large lounge and through dining room, with a pool/snooker table ideal for relaxing after an active day outdoors.
The cottage is situated at the end of a no through road with open countryside beyond. This area is outstanding in terms of natural beauty with a great selection of walks from the forested valley floors to the windswept mountain tops (a good selection of maps are provided for guests use). There are many paths leading into the hills and the cycle track connecting onto the Afan trails leading into the area known as Little Switzerland.
There is plenty to do in the area particularly for those that enjoy the great outdoors with the Afan Argoed Visitor Centre five miles away, and the Glencorrwg Mountain Biking Centre three miles away. Afan Cottage is spacious and ideal as a family retreat. It is also perfect for mountain bikers, with its own secure lock up and cleaning facilities. The village has a mini-market, hardware store, Chinese takeaway and, importantly, a good pub within walking distance.
The Afan Forest is currently the fastest growing Mountain Biking area in the country with its two dedicated mountain biking centres within the local area. Blaengwynfi is on the low level trail leading to the Glyncorrwg and Afan Argoed Mountain Biking Centres. The trails have been carved out of hillsides and the valley has been transformed into single track heaven.
Afan Forest Park is home to five world class trails:‘Y Wal’, the ‘Penhydd’, ‘White’s Level’, ‘Skyline’ and 'W2' and is the only UK trail destination so far to feature in the ‘What Mountain Bike Magazine’ as one of the ten best places to ride “before you die”.
There is plenty to see and do in the area. Margam Country Park is nearby with one thousand acres of glorious parkland offering history, wildlife, coarse fishing and pure natural beauty. Beautiful sandy beaches at Porthcawl are just a twenty minute drive away and the Aberdulais Falls Museum which is set in a steep gorge is an interesting place to visit, demonstrating the power of water and its impact on industry.
There is sailing and yacht hire at Oxwich Bay, The Gower and Swansea Marina; horse riding at Cimla riding centre; scuba diving around the Gower and swimming at Cymmer swimming pool.
If you enjoy the Great Outdoors and are looking for an active holiday, this is the perfect place with everything on your doorstep.

Afan Cottage joined Independent Cottages in May 2010
As a group of 8 girl non-bikers who just fancied getting away, we were slightly worried that there may not be much to do in the area. But the Welcome info provided us with plenty of ideas, and it was wonderful just being in such beautiful countryside! The cottage was clean and comfortable and really cosy with the log burning fire. We also had a fab time playing on the pool table.Carley Duckett, August 2010
The facilities at the cottage for bikes are first rate with two Asgard Access stores for 8 bikes, bolted to the floor with shrouded paddlocks, and a superb power washer. We were able to chill out around the pool table in the evening, relaxed in the knowledge our bikes were not going anywhere! Brian White, London, August 2010
We have enjoyed ourselves very very much, and had a wonderful time! Many many thanks for all, particularly letting us borrow a freezer for all our kosher food. Hillary Regal, London, August 2010
The cottage is very comfortable, which was lucky as we did not have very good weather! We did get out on our bikes as a family, and the trails are great. Sandra Apsley, Manchester, September 2010
