The Old Forge is a delightful Georgian holiday cottage which has been sympathetically refurbished and restored to a high standard whilst still retaining lovely original features including two inglenook fireplaces (both with wood-burners), original brick floors and the re-opened bread and faggot ovens!
The cottage has a large pretty ‘country style’ garden to the rear which is enclosed when the gates are shut.
Situated in the heart of a very attractive conservation area, The Old Forge is located on the borders of Suffolk and Norfolk. Redgrave is rich in history and former village residents include the 16th/17th century philosopher and statesman Francis Bacon. The village is located close to the Wildlife Trust’s Redgrave and Lopman Fen and has a small community run village shop, the Cross Keys pub with a warm welcome and good food and a ‘small- holding’ fresh vegetable stall.
There are plenty of local amenities in the neighbouring villages of Rickinghall and Botesdale and Diss is six miles away and has a Morrisons, Tesco and Somerfield as well as a very good selection of local stores and restaurants.
Bury St Edmunds is only twenty five minutes and the County towns of Norwich and Ipswich are within one hour. Stowmarket is not far away and you can reach Cambridge and Newmarket in around an hour. With the Norfolk Broads and the coast at Southwold being under an hour away, the cottage provides a great base for exploring the area and its many attractions.
If you enjoy driving around the countryside and visiting market towns, famous cities or pretty and interesting villages then The Old Forge is ideal for you. Alternatively, stay more locally and enjoy walking, cycling or simply relaxing in lovely surroundings.

People staying Christmas/New Year 2011 said the cottage was 'fabulous' and when asked if they felt anything could be improved, they said 'nothing'.
Recently when walking in the area visitors staying at The Old Forge saw two green woodpeckers, a heron and a kingfisher all within the space of 10 minutes around the area of Hinderclay Fen - 10/15 minute walk from the cottage - and we often get positive comments about the local wildlife, area and the like.
The last people to rent the cottage said on their comments sheet "This has been one of the loveliest cottages we have ever been to. Superb in every respect. Beautiful garden!" They were all adults from overseas.
Our first people renting the cottage in 2008 said on leaving "We hope to return to the Old Forge. It really is a lovely cottage. I've never been anywhere so well stocked (better than home!) and it was beautifully decorated and fitted." they were two couples and dog.
Our second people said "...absolutely gorgeous, we love it and your attention to detail is amazing..." They were a family of 3 adults, toddler, baby and dog.
