Queenies is a delightful luxury holiday cottage that sleeps two guests. It is ideal for couples wanting a romantic break and also accommodates well behaved pets, allowing pet owners to enjoy a luxurious cottage with lots of character, antique furnishings and a high level of comfort and style.
The cottage offers some very good walks from the front door and backs onto a lovely Nature Reserve which leads to Snape with its Arts and Music Centre, and beyond to the popular seaside town of Aldeburgh.
With a cosy log burning stove, Queenies is a perfect retreat at any time of the year. Situated on the main road between the A12 and the pretty coastal town of Aldeburgh, it is close to Snape and The Snape Maltings where the Benjamin Britten Music and Arts Centre is based. There are great walks all around the area and a wide selection of excellent award winning restaurants and pubs.
Queenies is part of a small rambling 17th Century Regency Row, situated on its own with forest nature reserve behind and Farmland in front. The cluster of buildings were originally built for milling and later further grander buildings were added. Queenies is a red brick and pan tiled conversion dating back to the late 18th Century and formerly used as stables and grain stores. It is set back from the road by two buildings and benefits from safe off road parking.
Straight from the yard is a five bar gate leading into the Nature Reserve from which provides access to numerous forests, beaches, lakes and other Nature Reserves.
This is a wonderful location for cycling and walking. The seaside at Aldeburgh is a seven min drive away and there are unique walks from there along the Orford Ness Nature Reserve or beside the salt lakes to Thorpeness. Aldeburgh is a big Arts Centre with many excellent shops, a pretty marina/harbour and a wide selection of restaurants and pubs.

Queenies retains much of its original character with the original brick floors on the ground floor and lovely old oak boards on the first floor which is accessed by a good wide staircase.
The kitchen is entered via a stable door and has slate flooring, along with units made from using old panelled doors which conceal the dishwasher, fridge and microwave. There is an electric Bosch cooker and an original Butler sink with traditional draining boards. A traditional plate rack and open shelving complete the period feel.
Part of the original manger has been incorporated into the wall dividing the kitchen and the main living/dining area where there is a large woodburner whose doors can be left open, providing a wonderful cosy atmosphere on those more chilly nights. Suffolk white brick flooring, wooden panelled walls, Victorian deep-buttoned old velvet Chesterfield sofa, large and comfortable 19th Century “carpet” armchair also all add to the ambience.
The Dining area has a period oak gate-leg table with a harlequin set of 18th Century country dining chairs and a Pewter chandelier. The blinds and curtains are in a fabulous ancient-looking crewel work which really compliments the panelling and the oak furniture that furnishes the room.
The cosy upstairs bedroom is dominated by a beautiful Antique French bed with a fabulous gilded canopy, dressed in a dramatic toile fabric. There is a small fitted cupboard, antique chest of drawers, pretty period armchair and lovely bedside lighting and chandelier that complete a truly romantic atmosphere.
There is an en-suite bathroom with period style wood panelling, basin and a ball & claw footed bath – plus the luxury of under-floor heating and a heated towel rail.
