Primrose Cottage provides a romantic retreat for couples in the heart of the Suffolk hamlet of Kersey. A fantastic place to stay if you want to enjoy lovely walks straight from the front door, beautiful countryside, a wonderful pub in walking distance and pretty historic villages dotted along the river valleys.
The picturesque village of Kersey is located close to the Stour Valley which has now become known as Constable Country. The village dates back to medieval times and boasts a beautiful 14th Century church, attractive Elizabethan buildings, the ford (the 'splash' which is a tributary of the River Brett) and The Bell Inn with its good ale, log fire and uncomplicated food.
This delightful part of South Suffolk has the highest number of timber framed medieval buildings in the county. In the Middle Ages, the area was the heart of the English wool industry and today the wealth it generated still shines through providing magnificent buildings to marvel at.
Ordnance survey and local maps are provided in the cottage showing footpaths to local towns and villages such as Chelsworth and Hadleigh. The quiet country lanes are ideal for cyclists and there are plenty of excellent pubs and restaurants in the area for enjoying a long lunch. There is beautiful open countryside to explore and plenty of attractions and places to visit within easy reach of Primrose Cottage. These include: Lavenham - the best preserved medieval village in the country; Long Melford - famous for its antiques and Tudor house (Melford Hall); Bury St. Edmunds - the capital of West Suffolk and Kentwell Hall - a wonderfully restored moated Tudor Mansion near to Long Melford.
For those happy to travel a little further afield, the beautiful Suffolk coast is within an hours drive and offers great diversity with its wetlands, charming seaside towns and historic riverside villages, popular for beach lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.

Guests who have just left us on Good Friday:
Feb/March 2012 A lovely cottage in a very pretty & friendly village. Make sure you go to the Bell in the village - very friendly & great pub food. Thanks to Margaret & Colin for a warm welcome. John & Sue Salisbury, Pulloxhill, Bedfordshire.
Lovely stay in this wonderful cosy cottage; Kersey is a charming village, great to be able to stop in such a place rather than just pass through.
The Lindsey (Red) Rose food in the next village was very good.
Mediaeval Lavenham is definitely a “must see” as recommended by Margaret. The local Hollow Trees Farm Shop is also good for local produce and has a great cafeteria.
Above all, make use of the maps provided, follow the guides to pubs and villages and you won’t go far wrong.

A lovely long weekend in a lovely quaint cottage. The Munnings Tea Room at Lavenham is very good and so is the Kings Head at East Bergholt a lovely restaurant/pub, quality and quantity. The Great House at Lavenham is a first class restaurant but so are the prices!!
The ‘local’ Bell offers good basic pub food, service is good and so are the Landlord and Landlady. Thanks a lot.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend, in this perfect cottage – we did not want to leave!
The Lindsey Rose was a great place to go for supper, food was excellent. The local is not bad if you’re looking for a bar meal – it is nice to be able to walk.
Would love to come back!!

Hard to add to what’s already been written ...... this cottage is perfect. We could just have moved in but where would we put our clutter?
The hamper and home baked bread were very welcome and easily devoured. We just pottered around locally and found everything just as has been described. Apart from the fact that we could do with longer here we don’t have any tips for improvement!

Lovely relaxing week in this beautiful cosy cottage; Wonderful attention to detail!
Thanks so much.
A wonderful short week away in the beautiful Suffolk countryside and warmly snug cottage.
Many thanks to Colin and Margaret, very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Enjoyed many things including the 500yr old Mulberry Tree – ask Colin for directions. The Anchor at Nayland is superb and a cracking pint of Adnams Broadside to be found at The Cock in Polstead.
Due home back to Liquorice country (Pontefract, W. Yorks) now, but hopefully not too long before we return.

A great weekend break at this lovely cottage. Beautiful winter weather – a dusting of snow with bright blue skies.
Great walks round Kersey and over indulgence at The Crown (Stoke by Nayland), The Lindsey Rose and The Anchor (Nayland) – not forgetting Munnings tea room in Lavenham.

Weather awful for our usual pursuits but we have absolutely loved our stay at this immaculate cottage.
Rang up Colin prior to arriving to see if it was worth our coming but thank God we did.
Colin and Margaret did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. Colin even cleared the road, to the back of the cottage, of snow every day so we had the choice of taking the car for a spin, but instead we walked everywhere. We recommend the Lindsey Rose Pub, found the Bell very adequate and Hadleigh well worth a visit.
Thank you Colin and Margaret, we will be back.

We couldn’t have picked a better spot for a Christmas getaway. Primrose Cottage exceeded our expectations as did Colin & Margaret.
We couldn’t have wished for a better break in a fab location. We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who asks. Neil and Liz
Happy New Year!
