If you are looking for a romantic holiday cottage with lots of original character and charm in the beautiful Suffolk countryside then Holmwood Cottage is for you. It oozes character with lovely beams, antique furniture and traditional furnishings, fabrics and rugs - the perfect place for a family holiday or a romantic break for two.
Holmwood Cottage is a lovely 16th Century thatched cottage in a group of five cottages situated between the lovely Medieval Village of Kersey and the pretty thatched village of Polstead which offers wonderful walks and excellent snacks at the village pub on the green. The cottage is on the road linking Sudbury to Ipswich next to 'The Brewers Arms', a quiet pub in this tiny hamlet of Bowerhouse Tye.
Situated in South Suffolk, Holmwood cottage is less than two hours for London or an hour from Cambridge and it is located where the famous English Landscape painter John Constable was born. It is available all year for weekend and midweek short breaks as well as weekly holidays.
Situated right in the heart of rural Suffolk, there is beautiful open countryside to enjoy. Pretty little lanes meander through to Kersey behind the cottage or Polstead in front of it which are ideal for cycling and the South Suffolk cycle route can easily be picked up from here.
The cottage is ideally situated to exploring the small pretty villages which nestle in the river valleys on all sides, including the beautiful and perfectly preserved medieval Villages of : - Lavenham – once a very important ‘Wool Town’ with its legacy of grand rural Architecture; Long Melford – a famous Antique hunters paradise with two Stately Homes, Kentwell Hall & Melford Hall, both open to the public; Kersey – the original ‘Old English Village’ with the ford in the highstreet; Chelsworth – famous for its village ‘open-garden’ weekends and many others like the Eleigh's, Bildeston, Boxford, Bures and Nayland.

Inside - Holmwood cottage has a charming double bedroom with a second twin/double bedroom leading off from it. The bedrooms are especially cosy and have pretty beds and wonderful original broad Elmwood floors.
The lovely fully equipped kitchen has an ancient Suffolk brick floor and seats 6 at the table. There is a very pretty beamed sitting room with lots of room to relax in and enjoy the charms of this unspoilt 16th Century beamed and thatched cottage.
The ‘completely new’ bathroom is situated downstairs and has both a bath and a separate shower. Beautiful Persian carpets and rugs show off the charm of the original features in this lovingly restored cottage.
Outside - There is a large patio overlooking the pretty ‘cottage garden’, at the side there is a small shallow pond which encourages wildlife and at the back there is a second pretty evening sun patio with a wooden deck and BBQ facilities, this patio leads straight into the kitchen and is partially glass covered giving you an additional ‘outside room’.
The garden is enclosed and there is a gated courtyard for two cars to park in, this has access straight to the garden.
Bikes are freely provided, including one with a child’s seat - The South Suffolk Cycle Route runs close to the cottage.
Additional information - Well behaved pets are always welcomed - please ensure your pet respects the garden and the cottage and is not allowed to damage anything or sleep on any furniture, please do not let dogs upstairs or leave them alone in the property. Please bring suitable bedding.
