With its wide open skies, empty beaches, mouth-watering local food and of course good accommodation, Suffolk Heritage Coast will become one of your favourite holiday destinations.
Around 2 hours from London, Aldeburgh is one of the favourite places on the Suffolk coast with tourists. It's a small, unspoilt and stylish coastal town where you can still buy fresh fish from the fishermen's huts on the beach.
Aldeburgh's shops and restaurants are well known in the area and the town is definitely worth visiting even if you don't stay here. There are lots of interesting independent shops, some excellent restaurants, cafés, takeaways, art galleries, an old-style cinema, small supermarket, bookshop and inviting pubs serving local Adnams bitter, not to forget the famous fish & chip shops. Sharing your fresh fish & chips with the seagulls on the shingle beach is an experience not to be missed!
You may just wish to unwind and relax, but there is plenty to see and do in the area. If you're looking for exercise, there are some great walks and cycle routes along beaches, rivers, woodland and heaths. More leisurely activities include boat trips on the River Alde, BBQs on the beach, a round of golf at Aldeburgh Golf Club, or visits to the English Heritage castles at Orford and Framlingham.
Oakley House is in a superb location on Aldeburgh's seafront, Crag Path, and is a very short walk to shops, restaurants and galleries on the High Street.

This stunning property will delight you on so many levels. To start with, it has an enviable position on Aldeburgh's seafront, enjoying uninterrupted sea views. Then there's the tasteful décor and generously proportioned layout of this beautiful house. Sleeping up to eight people in four rooms, the house is finished to a superb quality and is an ideal retreat at all times of the year.
Accommodation:
Downstairs you'll enjoy meals in the large well-equipped kitchen, which has a farmhouse table and handmade cupboards, Aga range cooker, Smeg gas hob and fridge freezer, and Dualit toaster. This double-aspect room has super sea views and is truly the heart of this house. The kitchen leads to a cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove, slate floor, TV and DVD player, corner sofa to sit four people and stairs leading to the 1st floor.
On the first floor, the tastefully decorated living room has spectacular views across the beach and out to sea, with wide open skies stretching out beyond - it is a wonderful place to sit on an evening with the balcony doors open and enjoy the holiday chatter of people wandering by on the path below. This double-aspect room is furnished with two comfy sofas and has a pewter fireplace (although it is not in use, you can use the wood burning stove downstairs) on polished pine floor boards with a natural rug. You’ll also find a CD/stereo player hidden away in one of the cupboards. The master bedroom is light and airy with a natural carpet, chest of drawers and dressing table. The en-suite bathroom is kitted out with a luxury slipper bath with shower attachment, WC, sink and cupboards to hang your clothes. Sea views can be enjoyed from both the luxury of the bed and the bath! Next door the sand and white coloured family bathroom feels very generous with a double-ended free-standing bath with shower attachment, a separate shower, w.c. and sink.
From the first floor, steep stairs lead to a small second floor landing with doors to two bedrooms, both with ample cupboard space - a small children's room with bunk beds and a larger single/twin children's bedroom with roof windows. Here the second single bed pulls out from under the first bed to make a child's bed. Back on the ground floor, there is a further double bedroom. This room has a double bed, washbasin, chest of drawers, shelves and a hook behind the door to hang your clothes. Beyond this is a large utility room with double sink and a w.c.
All in all, this is a magical property with stylishly presented interiors and superb sea views. Rental prices include bed linen and towels, gas and electricity plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.
The property is equipped with gas central heating, wood-burning stove, TV and DVD player, CD player, Aga range cooker (on 24 hours a day so no need to wait for it to warm up!), two-ring gas hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Travel cot available on request. A roadside parking space is usually available directly in the front of the property on the road although this cannot be guaranteed.
