Old Castle Inn is a large converted public house with many Gothic features, offering spacious self catering holiday accommodation that is ideal for two families, large family get togethers or groups of up ten guests in five large bedrooms (plus an additional two guests by negotiation). It is conveniently located on the edge of the Peak District, close to Alton Towers in the picturesque Staffordshire village of Alton, with a good choice of pubs offering fine dining, on the doorstep.

Alton Towers theme park is just one mile away with buses running from the village. Sitting above the Churnet Valley, the attractive village is less than a mile from Dimmingsdale with a good network of beautiful walks and cycle paths, which include the disused railway line. Alton Castle and the surrounding church buildings behind the property, constitute a heritage site and add to the character of the location. Along with the pubs, the village also has a local shop and post office for stocking up on provisions, children's play area and lovely riverside and woodland walks.

Families, hikers, cyclists and pets are all welcome and there are plenty of things to see and do in both the immediate and surrounding area. Staffordshire Moorlands (at the Southern end of the Peak District) provides excellent walking and cycling as do Dimmingsdale (one mile from Alton) and Dovedale (twenty minutes by car).

A little further afield you have Chatsworth House and Drayton Manor Theme Park in Tamworth that features some of the biggest, scariest and wettest rides around.

Other attractions include the Snowdome at Tamworth; Waterworld at Etruria, Poole's Cavern at Buxton, Uttoxeter Racecourse, Haddon Hall at Bakewell and the Potteries Museums and Visitor Centres at Stoke on Trent to name just a few.
