One Fair Place Cottage is 18th Century in origin but has been carefully modernised. It is fully equipped and comfortably furnished and is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding countryside.
The small village of Chiselborough is picturesque and peaceful. Set away from main roads amongst undulating countryside this area is an ideal holiday destination. The historic village was mentioned in the Doomsday Book and has a beautiful Church of St Peter and St Paul, with an elegant octagonal spire, which can be traced back to Norman times. The village has numerous traditional cottages built in the local golden Hamstone.
The Cat Head Inn is another focal point for the local community, and provides excellent food. If you choose to venture further afield, there are many footpaths leading to neighbouring villages and local vantage points.
The Chiselborough Fair, founded in 1257, one of the old Somerset Fairs, used to be held on the village common near the cottage. Here farm animals and sundry goods would be traded until the advent of canals and railways made such fairs redundant. However this small common still provides a breathtaking view of the village and surrounding area, and is a haven for wildlife; some villagers continue to have grazing rights for their animals.
