Bryn Gwyn - Self catering holiday cottage in Borth-y-Gest, Porthmadog, Gwynedd, Snowdonia, Wales - Sleeps 8
Bryn Gwyn is one of two beautifully presented, Five Star holiday cottages that afford superb sea views across Tremadog Bay and beyond to the Snowdonia Mountains.
Each holiday home accommodates eight guests (plus one cot), or parties of sixteen if both are rented together (plus two cots). They are located in the unspoilt picturesque Victorian coastal village of Borth-y-Gest, on the Llyn Peninsular and just a mere two miles from the Snowdonia National Park - a magnificent playground for those who love walking, mountain climbing or just scenery watching.
This is an ideal base for those seeking a relaxing beach holiday or one full of outdoor activities. Idyllic beaches are within walking distance along the beautiful coastal path which leads directly from Borth-y-Gest. A short walk to the East also takes you to the popular harbour town of Porthmadog with its wide range of pubs, shops and cafes. You are also able to board the Welsh Highland Railway and ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog.
The cottages sit in an elevated position on a small hillside with Parc-y-Borth nature reserve to the rear which is popular with walkers and bird watchers. They enjoy a fantastic secluded position which allows guests to peacefully enjoy the incredible views from the balcony, garden and the majority of the rooms inside. The village teashop, bistro restaurant and shop in Borth-y-Gest are just a two minute walk from the cottages along the village sea front.
Borth-y-Gest is set in a wonderful coastal position with fantastic views and a panorama that sweeps across the estuary of the River Glaslyn to the Moelwyn Mountains to the east and the Rhinog Mountains to the south. The views also take in the wooded peninsula of the village of Portmeirion and are possibly unrivalled by any other seaside village in Wales.
The estuary and sands are of particular interest to those who enjoy bird watching and are home to a wide range of bird life including redshanks, oystercatchers and curlew, along with winter visitors such as great crested grebe, goldeneye and wigeon and in the summer flocks of sandwich terns.
As well as the lovely local beaches, further afield you have Black Rock Sands (two miles away) which is a popular wide sandy beach, along with Cricceith Beach (seven miles) and Harlech (ten miles) reachable by car and also public transport.
