The Tin House is a delightful character holiday cottage located in Llwyngwril in Coastal South Snowdonia. Perfectly positioned, The Tin House is set in a quiet and pretty village which has a path following the river (Gwril) down to the beach.
The holiday cottage is close to the Mawddach Estuary, which is a haven for wildlife and the village is served by the Cambrian Coastal Railway, and also buses to the surrounding towns and villages.
For those who enjoy walking, there are many wonderful walks from the village, and also a little further a-field, such as Cader Idris, Bird Rock, and Cregennan Lakes. You can also enjoy fishing (for sea bass and mackerel), windsurfing on a highly rated beach, and cycling along the quiet country lanes, tracks and also at Coed y Brenin, National Centre for Mountain-Biking which is within easy reach.
Many Narrow-Gauge Railways are in the area for Steam enthusiasts and for those interested in history, there was an Iron Age Fort on the mountain, overlooking Llwyngwril, dating from 400 BC which you may be able to see evidence of if you know what you are looking for.
The area is surrounded by spectacular scenery and offers some beautiful views. Llyn Peninsula can be seen, with Bardsey Island and its lighthouse, at the tip of the peninsula. Dolphins and seals are often seen playing in the bay and majestic Red Kites often soar above the village and around the area making a spectacular site. Herons and dippers frequent the river, and a wide variety of other birds and wildlife can be seen.
The beach is shingle and this part of coast is rated as being excellent for wind-surfing where on a gusty day windsurfers can often be seen riding the breakers. Many people take picnics to the beach and have a bonfire, and watch the sun go down, over the sea - a wonderful experience and spectacular sight.
Near to the village is The Blue Lake at Friog, which is a disused slate quarry, which has filled with water and provides a good place for a dip on a hot sunny day.
The village has a good village shop where you can stock up on provisions. There is also a post office and a pub (The Garthangharad Hotel, also a restaurant), all just a few minute's walk down the hill.
There are plenty of things to see and do locally including: Bird Rock at Llanegryn which is a dramatic landmark; the ancient church at Llanegryn, with the most beautiful carved rood screen, which was carried over the mountain from Cymer Abbey by the monks; the church of Llangelynin which lies just outside the village, close to the sea; the Mawddach Trail along the old railway line which once ran to Dolgellau and is now ideal for walking or cycling and horse riding from a trekking centre in Arthog, from where you can go on mountain or beach rides.
Whether you want a relaxing holiday by the beach or want to explore this wonderful part of North Wales and its coastline, this is an ideal location.

Reviews and Testimonials for The Tin House
“Cozy cottage with a homely feel”
Reviewed 1 October 2011
My wife and I stayed at The Tin House for a week. It's a small cottage with a unique decor that brings out the inner child in you. The small kitchen was perfect for preparing a quick meals. Debbie gave us yummy breakfast groceries that lasted us a couple of days. There are two bedrooms: a larger one for an adult couple; and a smaller one suitable for young kids. The comfortable bedding refreshed us every morning. The fire place was a nice surprise, keeping us comfortable through a chilly rainy night in LLwyngwril. The train station is a short 5 minute walk and there's a nice pub restaurant down the block. The Tin House is not for those looking to be pampered but perfect for anyone looking for a clean and refreshing stay while treking through Gwynedd.

Unusual, peaceful and timeless”

I chose The Tin House, Llwyngwril, Wales after a search on the internet. The location was great and as we were being sponsered to climb Snowdon we wanted a cottage to retreat to after but not in the Snowdon touristy area which even in September was extremely busy! Well that's just what we got. The tin house was tucked away down a little lane and even though you have neighbours you don't feel they are intruding on you in any way. Was a bit worried if it rained that it would be really loud and keep the kids awake but that was not the case at all and no more sound could be heard than in a brick-built house! The price was very reasonable for the 6 of us, if a bit cramped (too many of us!) I would suggest 4 max but it is furnished in a lovely old-fashioned way and was very clean on arrival. All the utensils you would need are there, very well equipped and I would highly recommend. In fact I hope to stay again one day :)

We absolutely love The Tin House. Once we had found it, we revisited many many times. Unfortunately due to studying commitments we haven't been now for several years but definitely expect to go back and visit shortly. Debbie is so hospitable, and The Tin House is always so welcoming when we arrive. I am always really sorry to leave it behind and go back to reality!!
Liked best: Location, comfort, cleanliness

We loved this creatively decorated and comfortable little house. The village is beautiful and quiet. We had a lovely rest. Found the house to be well-equipped and the owner most helpful. We had one special request which was immediately facilitated. We were able to have all our queries answered easily. Very helpful owner who lives nearby and thus knew all about local facilities from personal experience. We will be back. Good value too!!
