Gwyndy is a delightful detached holiday cottage in a tranquil location on a small organic fruit and vegetable farm. It is situated within easy driving distance of both the mountains of Snowdonia and the beautiful sandy beaches of the Llyn Peninsula. It is just four miles from Criccieth, six miles from Pwllheli and ten miles from Porthmadog. Gwyndy is beautifully furnished and is a true eco-cottage with its grid-connected photovoltaic solar panels, log burner, conservatory, underfloor heating, and thick insulation, which make it energy efficient and cosy, even in winter.
Accommodating four guests plus cot, Gwyndy cottage is ideal for families wishing to explore the area and enjoy the beaches. Well away from the public road, it is excellent for children, with our friendly ducks and other animals. It is also popular with couples wanting to escape to a peaceful retreat in beautiful countryside. The spacious and comfortably-furnished conservatory gives you wonderful views over Cardigan Bay and the magnificent mountains to the east. It’s a perfect place to watch the evening sun colour the mountains. The stars at night are spectacular for there is little light pollution here.
There are wonderful walks nearby or you can enjoy an invigorating stroll along one of the many beaches. A cycle route passes the end of the drive and there are plenty of quiet country lanes, so bring your bikes. There are also public footpaths for walkers to enjoy, one of the best of these being to the famous St Cybi's Well, a mere fifteen minutes walk from the cottage. Walk on a further twenty minutes up through woods and fields and you reach the rocky summit of Garn Bentyrch, a hilltop Iron age fortress. Although only just over two hundred and twenty metres high, the views in all directions are the best in the area! For those who want to travel a little further afield, the fine castles of Harlech, Caernarfon and Criccieth are all within easy reach as are the famous Snowdon, Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland narrow gauge railways. If you like mountain walking, you have many to choose from and we can offer advice on routes if you wish.
