Gwalia is a three bedroom holiday cottage, sleeping up to six guests, in an ideal location within the village of Dolwyddelan in the Snowdonia National Park.
The cottage makes a perfect place for friends or families that want to holiday together, whether you are looking for an active holiday, a peaceful getaway or a base from which to explore both North and South Wales.
'Gwalia’, meaning 'by the river’ in welsh, is made out of local slate and is set within the spectacular scenery of Snowdonia, on the main Dolgellau Road (A470) which connects North and South Wales.
The picturesque village of Dolwyddelan is located in the Lledr valley and is famed for its castle and also being the birth place of Llewellyn the Great. Surrounded by breathtaking views, the village is perfectly placed for walking, fishing, touring, biking, horse riding and much more, There are many scenic public footpaths out of the village and the cottage is within walking distance of two restaurants (one a pub serving bar meals), a Spar supermarket and a Post Office. Dolwyddelan also boasts its own train station (Pont Y Pant) where you can get a train to places such as Betws-y-Coed and Llandudno which are also within easy driving distance.
Betws-y-Coed is a popular tourist destination, just five miles away, with lots of excellent restaurants, shops and more scenic walks. Betws-y-coed leads to the Conwy Valley which is home to the stunning natural beauties of The Fairy Glen, Conwy falls, and not to far away the series of waterfalls named Swallow falls. Conwy is a must if you are interested in history with its castle built by Edward I and the many bridges in the area including the Pont-y-Pair and Thomas Telfords Iron Waterloo Bridge built in 1815.
Not only does the area offer a multitude of outdoor activities to enjoy but there are also plenty of interesting places and attractions to visit for those who want to truly explore the area including: Mount Snowdon (eighteen miles), the highest mountain in Wales or England - a climb to the summit on a clear day will be rewarded with views of England, Ireland and Scotland; Colwyn Bay (twenty four miles) for a day on the beach, a stroll along the long promenade or a visit to the welsh mountain Zoo and famous Bodnant gardens; Porthmadog (seventeen miles) a harbour town rich in maritime history; and the spectacular seaside resort of Llandudno which is still today full of its Victorian splendour.
