Situated on the South end of the Isle of Skye, within the heart of the village of Broadford, Bridgend Cottage is a charming traditional stone built cottage which is well over one hundred years old. It has been recently upgraded to provide modern facilities and comfort and is in an enviable position with uninterrupted beautiful sea views across Broadford Bay and the mountains of Wester Ross and beyond - spectacular at sunset.
Broadford is on the south side of the island and only eight miles from the bridge. It is the second largest settlement on this lovely island and offers a variety of pubs, restaurants and takeaways, along with a supermarket, selection of smaller tourist shops, bank and a petrol station - all within easy walking distance of the cottage.
Half an hour's drive north from Broadford will take you into the heart of the Cuillins which offers spectacular views and treks which are great for walkers. A little further on is the north end of the island with the legendary Bonnie Prince Charlie country and Dunvegan Castle, home of the Clan Macleod. Closeby you can also visit the breathtaking Kilt Rock offering incredible photo opportunities. Before returning back to the cottage, why not visit Portree, the islands capital, and enjoy its many and varied shopping opportunities including the well acclaimed Aros Heritage Centre or pay a visit to Talisker Distillery in Carbost and enjoy a dram on one of the guided tours.
The truly wonderful area of Sleat (known as the Garden of Skye) is South of Broadford with its peaceful and scenic walks. Also at the South end of the island is the Clan Donald Centre where you can discover the local history and folklore or from this end of the island you can take a visit to Elgol, a remote community (featured in the BBC series as one of the Best Views in Britain) with wonderful views overlooking Loch Coruisk and beyond into the heart of the Cuillin Mountain range. From Elgol you can take a boat trip into the heart of Loch Coruisk.
Skye has it all, in terms of breathtaking rugged scenery with walks and treks for both the keen walker and the less energetic and you may even be lucky enough to spot a golden eagle! Being never more than five miles from the sea it is also an ideal place for fishing or enjoying the sealife and wildlife surrounding the island with regular sightings of dolphins and seals.
