Yethouse - Self catering holiday cottage in Newcastleton, Roxburghshire, Scottish Borders, Scotland - Sleeps 6-8

Yethouse

Yethouse can accommodate parties of six guests (or eight by arrangement) in three bedrooms with three bathrooms. It overlooks the village of Newcastleton in Liddesdale, within southern Scotland and is close to the English Border, providing a peaceful rural retreat where you can relax and recharge your batteries.

The converted farmhouse is furnished to the highest of standards and is ideal for a family holiday, an adventure holiday with lots of activities nearby or simply a relaxing holiday with great views and lots of fresh air.

This is a great location for those who enjoy cycling with the world-renowned 7stanes mountain bike trails on the doorstep of Yethouse. Newcastleton trails offer some of the most challenging cycling, but there is also a skills area and forest trails for those looking for a more leisurely cycle ride.

A short drive away from Yethouse is Kielder Forest and Water Park and Hadrian’s Wall, a World Heritage site. Rock UK, the local activity centre, will happily indulge you if you want to try kayaking, abseiling, archery or fencing. For those who enjoy fishing, if the waters are running you can try fishing for salmon or sea trout on the rivers Esk and Liddel (permits can be purchased in the village during season).

If golf is your passion then the challenge of the nine hole golf course is one you will remember, and worth it to take in the breathtaking views from the third hole. Alternatively go pony trekking through the forest - a great way to explore the surrounding area.

Yethouse is also a great base from which to explore the historic sites of the Scottish English Border, a place steeped in history and legend. Visit the local heritage museum where you can find out more about Newcastleton or Copshaw Holm; trace your family tree at the Hawick Heritage Hub which is only thirty minutes away or take a drive following the Reivers Route taking in famous sites like Mangerton and Hermitage Castle, where battles were once fought.

Local towns to visit include Hawick which is famous for its textiles, visit Wilton House and explore their beautiful gardens or Drumlanrig Tower to understand its history; Langholm, the birthplace of Thomas Telford, which offers wonderful walking country where you can climb to the top of surrounding hills and take in the superb views; Explore the ruins of both Dryburgh and Melrose Abbeys and visit Abbotsford House and gardens, home to Sir Walter Scott; At Harestanes you can spend some time visiting the crafts workshops and the Woodside Walled garden, a gem of a nursery where you can indulge in home baking and a pot of tea. Gretna is also close and offers a mix of traditional gift shops and shopping outlets.

Reviews and Testimonials for Yethouse

A great house for a big family Christmas- a better equipped kitchen than my own! With an oven that could accommodate a 29lb turkey!! The house had enough space for 17 people (for lunch!) and at the same time was cosy and homely. A fabulous find. Dec 2010

As seasoned walkers, bikers and cottage-stayers, i think its fair to say we have truly fallen in love with what we can only describe as a hidden gem in an area that must be Scotlands best kept secret. We felt like we had come home when we walked into Yethouse - it has stories to tell, views to delight, wonderful gardens and all the bits and pieces which are often missing in some cottages. so much to do on the doorstep, no need to venure far. Try Kielder lakeside, a beautiful tranquil place, dont miss Rock UK for a fantastic family day out - the zip wire is awesome!!. We may just have to break our rule of never staying in the same place twice!
