Formerly a coach house, this charming stone built holiday cottage will enchant visitors with its lovely location just above the mere in the pretty village of Monyash. It provides the perfect rural retreat from which to escape the pressures of every day life and is close to the popular town of Bakewell in the Peak District. It is graded 4 Star by Visit Britain and accredited for cyclists and walkers. There are many personal touches, such as house plants, games and books. The cottage has its own large lawn and patio with summer furniture and barbecue. There is lock-up storage for bikes, boots, golf clubs, etc.
Just a short stroll from the cottage is the Bull's Head Inn which is on the village green and next door is The Old Smithy cafe, both of which serve food. There are also seven other country inns within a four mile radius, all with open fires, serving home-cooked food.
Monyash is a picturesque village in the Peak District in Britain's first National Park. It was once a market village and the old market cross still stands on the green. Lathkill Dale commences on the eastern edge of Monyash and all other Derbyshire Dales are within a few miles. There is a superb children's playground. The roads are wide so that, even at popular times, the village is never congested.
The beautiful unspoilt town of Bakewell is just over four miles away and is of course famous for its tarts, puddings and pies! It is a market town, situated on the River Wye which offers a superb selection of independent food shops, restaurants, pubs and small specialists shops guaranteeing exciting shopping.
For those who enjoy walking, The Limestone Way walking trail goes straight through the village and Dovedale and the other Derbyshire Dales and walking trails are all within a few miles and just waiting to be explored. The Tissington and High Peak cycle trails pass a mile from the cottage. Everyone will love the splendour of this beautiful area and there are stunning views all around the Peak District for those who want to simply relax.
There are plenty of interesting things to do and see. The magnificent stately homes of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are a fifteen minute drive away and the Tramway Museum at Crich and the Heights of Abraham and cable car rides at Matlock Bath are within easy reach. Alton Towers, the UK's premier theme park, and Jodrell Bank, the UK's number one observatory, are both less than a hour away by car. Buxton Spa has a superb Georgian crescent, free-flowing spring water and the opulent Opera House. The Peak District has many caves to be explored on guided tours.
Derbyshire is the only UK county that displays spectacular Wells Dressings. Large, clay boards are decorated with thousands of tiny petals, pebbles, etc, and displayed for a week beside wells. This takes place from mid-May to early September and Monyash displays theirs from the last Saturday in May.
