The Hay Barn is one of two large 4 Star self-catering holiday cottages that are located in the very heart of the North York Moors National Park. Offering spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation, both cottages are suitable for groups of friends or family who are seeking the peace and tranquillity of the countryside for either a holiday or short break. The Hay Barn sleeps twelve guests in six bedrooms and Hill Farm House sleeps eight in four bedrooms (see separate advert).
Both cottages are fully equipped with everything you should need for a perfect, relaxing break and are set on a south-facing hillside, affording wonderful views over Rosedale.
Here you can explore the local countryside, which is perfect for those who enjoy walking, mountain biking, cycling, bird watching, or simply relaxing amongst beautiful surroundings. Linger in one of the many quintessential villages, enjoy the fine cuisine in local eating establishments and sample locally brewed ales. There really is "something for everyone" here and you are within easy reach of stately homes, seaside resorts, National Trust and English Heritage historic properties, city shopping, and some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain, right on the doorstep!
The North York Moors National Park has the highest proportion of forest out of any of the English National Parks and also contains the largest area of continuous heather moorland in both England and Wales. There are two visitor centres: Sutton Bank being the larger of the two (twenty two miles) and Danby in the Esk Valley near Castleton (twelve miles away). The centres have different displays showing the history and present-day life in the North York Moors. There are also a number of marked walks originating from the centres and guided walks, led by a Wildlife Ranger, are available at certain times of the year.
The National Park is renowned for its 'crosses' which often mark the routes once taken by monks and pilgrims. The Moors are ideal for walkers, with fantastic walks starting from the doorstep of Hill Farm House. Moorland, riverside, woodland and coastal paths are all within easy reach and you can walk on the old Rosedale railway line; a Roman road on Wheeldale moor; the Lyke Wake Walk or Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk across the moors.
