Surprise View Cottages provide an excellent base for walking, being on the very edge of the Moors and having immediate access to fields, tracks, woods and a network of public footpaths including the link walk; you can walk out leaving your car behind!
Named after the well-known, panoramic view looking down from the nearby church at Gillamoor; they are only one mile from the picturesque village of Hutton-le-Hole with its renowned Ryedale Folk Museum.
Even though in the heart of the country, they are central for cycling and touring the area, being only twenty five miles from York, Whitby and Scarborough. They have a wealth of historic Abbeys, Churches and Castles on the doorstep as well as major attractions like Castle Howard, North York Moors Railway, and Flamingoland.
There are shops and services in the nearby market towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering.
Surprise View Cottages are on a working farm, a short distance from the farmhouse. They are near to and overlook ancient stone buildings which once housed a Mill and Tannery, being in the owners family for over two hundred years.
Each has a South-facing stone-paved patio area. Surprise View Cottage itself sleeps four and has flower troughs bordering the mill race and a fenced lawned area looking North on to fields and woods. Field Barn Cottage sleeps four and is set higher up the hill with panoramic views over the moors and valleys, enhanced by its ha-ha (sunken wall) which gives uninterrupted vision. Lowna Farmhouse sleeps up to eight guests and is in an exceptional position like a jewel set in the green and gold of the Moors and woodlands and valleys.

Field Barn Cottage (see first two photos on the top row)offers thefollowing accommodation:
The ground floor has entrance hall leading to carpeted lounge which has beams, two stone walls and living flame gas stove; french windows and arrow windows give panoramic views over valleys and woods.
The hall also leads to a large, tiled, fitted kitchen with stone-walled dining area, and french windows giving access to another patio area overlooking the farm, woods & open moorland. There are also two arrow windows looking North & South.
First Floor has 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin, both with fitted vanity units, drawers, wardrobes and enclosed shelf space. Each has good views over open countryside. The bathroom has bath suite, washbasin, toilet and shower over bath. The bedlinen is co-ordinated and plentiful.
Services - Full oil-fired central heating, and gas for hob and fire. Bedlinen and towels are included in the rent. Colour TV, video, CD player/radio, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and payphone are provided.There is ample parking space in the enclosed yard at the cottage; further parking is provided in the farmyard which is approximately 50 yds from the cottage.

The ground floor has entrance leading to two bedrooms, 1 double, 1 twin, both with vanity units, drawers and fitted wardrobes.
The bathroom has bath suite with toilet and washbasin & shower over bath.
The first floor has a high-beamed lounge with log-burning stove set in a brick on stone wall, with spacious fitted kitchen & dining area; entry to this can also be by a separate outside stone stairway. There are fitted carpets throughout the cottage with pretty fabrics and furnishings.
Services - Full oil-fired central heating, and fuel for the woodburning stove. Bedlinen and towels are included in the rent. Colour TV, video, CD player/radio, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and payphone are provided. There is ample parking for two cars.
Lowna Farmhouse (see first three photos on bottom row) offers the following accommodation:
It has an entrance hall leading into a spacious farmhouse kitchen with tiled floor, Aga and table and chairs for eating. There is also an elegant, oak-floored dining room which has an equally large oak table and upholstered chairs. From here you can stroll out onto the paved sitting-out area of the garden or walk into the spacious sitting room which welcomes you with a roaring log fire, and sofas and chairs that you can sink into! A large flat-screen television and hi-fi system complete the relaxation zone. A telephone is provided and for those unable to resist a dabble, Wi-fi is freely available! All the utilities, ie. washer and drier, freezer and boiler are in the good-sized utility room next to the downstairs cloakroom.
From the hallway climb up the oak staircase which lead to.....
Two double rooms each with luxurious king-sized beds and enwuite shower rooms.
Two twin bedrooms, one with its own ensuite shower room and the second next to the newly fitted family bathroom. All the bedrooms are sunny and have wonderful views looking out onto fields and woods and down to the river Dove and the valley below.
Services - Linen, towels and all other services are included in the rent. Flat-screen TV, CD/radio, DVD, washing machine, drier, dishwasher, giant fridge, freezer, microwave and telephone are provided; there is a telephone and broadband/Wi-fi. We welcome families into all the cottages but Lowna Farmhouse is especially suitable for larger groups - extended family groups, walkers or cyclists, bird lovers and lovers of the country.
