In the heart of rural North Yorkshire, Argil Cottage provides a peaceful retreat and is located in a quiet, traditional hamlet in the Vale of Pickering on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The cottage provides everything you should need to help you have an enjoyable and memorable relaxing holiday.
The hamlet of Great Barugh sits in the heart of beautiful Ryedale, in between the market towns of Malton and Pickering. It is a peaceful place where you can have a taste of country life yet within easy reach of the many attractions of the area, providing plenty to see and do.
Attractions locally and within easy reach include: Eden Camp Modern History Museum which accurately recreates life in the second world war; the historic City of York with its incredible Gothic cathedral, great shops, museums and restaurants; the popular seaside town of Whitby and Scarborough on North Yorkshire's heritage coastline; Castle Howard, one of the country's finest stately homes; York Moors Railway - the perfect way to explore the moors by steam train and the local market towns of Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton and Pickering, boasting thriving weekly markets where you can stock up on wonderful local produce.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy within the area. North Yorkshire is superb for mountain bikers with numerous tracks and bridleways through hidden valleys and across spectacular moors. It is also a walker's paradise with everything from a lovely riverside stroll to a long distance hike.
For those who enjoy eating out, there is a pub in Great Barugh and for a fine dining experience, why not visit the Black Swan at Oldstead which was recently awarded a Michelin Star. Accommodation comprises:
- Sitting room which is dual aspect so you can enjoy views. There is Freeview television with a built in DVD player and comfortable seating.
- Fully fitted kitchen with modern appliances including oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and breakfast table with seating for four.
- Utility room just off the kitchen with washing machine and sink.
- Downstairs WC.
- Separate dining room with large table and seating for four.
- Two comfortable double bedrooms, one with walk in wardrobe, both with comfortable double beds.
- Additional third bedroom with single bed and great views out of the back of the cottage towards the moors.
- Family bathroom with a full sized bath and power shower.
Outside: There is a traditional cottage garden at the front of the cottage and a private terrace with seating area at the back. With views over the moors, the terrace is ideal for sitting out on a summer's evening. There is also a lockable garage for your car or bike storage and room for an additional car on the drive.
Additional information: The price includes full oil central heating, electricity, towels, linen and bedding. Short breaks are available through the winter months or at short notice during the summer. A high chair and hairdryer are provided.
