Rhoda Cottage is an 18th Century Stone holiday cottage that is situated on the High Street, overlooking the River Leven in the picturesque village of Great Ayton on the edge of the North York Moors. The cottage sleeps up to five guests in three bedrooms and has been extensively renovated to provide holiday accommodation of a high standard whilst maintaining many original features including, bedroom fireplaces, feature sandstone walls and some beams. There are log burners in both living areas and a courtyard patio leading to a secluded garden with storage facilities, for bikes etc, making this an ideal holiday retreat that can be enjoyed all-year round - perfect for both weekend breaks and family holidays.
Great Ayton is set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and attracts walkers, cyclists and holiday makers alike. Roseberry Topping and Captain Cooks Monument attract many visitors all year round and the village is well know for being the boyhood home of Captain Cook. The village has a variety of shops including the famous Petch’s Pork Pies and Suggitt’s homemade ice cream. There are three pubs serving food, cafes, bistros and two highly recommended restaurants with an intimate feel, all within walking distance of the cottage.
Great Ayton is ideally situated for exploring the area with beaches, cities, towns and villages a like. For example York, Newcastle and Leeds/Bradford are all one hour away by car. Middlesborough is twenty minutes and Harrogate, Knaresborough and Richmond to name but a few are approximately one hour away. There are numerous market towns within the area including Yarm, Stockton, Stokesley, Guisborough, Helmsley and Darlington, where you can stock up on local provisions.
The nearest beaches are approximately twenty minutes away by car and can be found at Redcar, Marske and Saltburn. Further afield is Whitby, Sandsend and Staithes (forty minutes) and Scarborough and Filey (one hour).
This area is renowned for being a great area for walkers of all abilities and energy levels. It is set at the foot of the Cleveland Hills and is a good location for anyone wanting to attempt the Lyke Wake Walk, Coast to Coast and the Cleveland Way.
