Greystones is a delightful late 17th Century Grade II listed holiday home that can accommodate parties of up to nine guests. It is conveniently located on the High Street in the very heart of the historic fishing village of Staithes on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coastline.
Formerly a village inn and reputedly a hotbed of smuggling activity, today Greystones provides a character, spacious holiday retreat where guests can self cater in style and comfort. Opposite the house is a tiny alleyway leading down to the beck where Staithes’ few remaining fishermen moor their colourful boats.
Staying in the old part of Staithes provides a special experience as the lovely fishing village has a unique character and a very special atmosphere. You can step back in time as you stroll along the cobbled streets which lead you to the safe little beach and harbour (just one hundred metres from Greystomes), passing several cafes, two pubs, a popular fish restaurant, great art gallery and a good selection of interesting and useful small shops along the way.
There are plenty of things to interest the whole family in the village itself and the popular seaside town of Whitby is just eleven miles away by car, providing an even greater selection of things to see and do.
Set on the dramatic and beautiful North Yorkshire Heritage Coast line, Staithes is located in the North York Moors National Park. Within this beautiful area you will find a wide range of places to visit and things to do including good beaches, a steam railway, stunning moorland walks, historic buildings and facilities for a host of different outdoor and indoor activities.
With its beautiful seaviews and ever changing horizon, you quickly realise why Staithes has attracted so many visitors and artists over the last hundred years or so. A visit to the beach behind the harbour provides an enjoyable place for families to relax in the summer months. Captain Cook and Staithes Heritage Centre gives a good insight into the local connections with Captain James Cook along with local history and customs. Go on a fishing trip out to sea in a local boat. Visit the Lifeboat Station which tells the stories of many heroic sea rescues over past years. Walk the Cleveland Way which offers a variety of walks taking in the spectacular cliff top scenery.
Whether you decide to simply relax locally and enjoy the many attractions available on your doorstep, or explore the area fully, Greystones provides a fantastic retreat and great place to base yourself.
