1 Moor View Cottage is located within the peaceful and unspoiled moorland village of Lockton, just six miles from Pickering on the A169 and sixteen miles from Whitby, making it an ideal base for exploring the North York Moors, Forests and Coastline.

There are some great walks from the cottage itself taking you over the moors to Hole of Horcum and Skelton’s Tower or down into Dalby Forest which offers many activities from easy cycling to mountain biking, varied walks to suit all ages and abilities, the exhilarating ‘Go Ape’ which is a must for any age (even if you only watch the treetop antics from below), or slow things down with some nature/bird watching in the quiet woods, by a stream or lake.

The local pub ‘The Fox and Rabbit’ is within easy walking distance of a mile and serves an excellent pint and good locally sourced food. Its sister pub ‘The Levisham Arms’ is just over a mile from the cottage in the village of Levisham. Both are well worth a visit.

The popular North Yorkshire Steam Railway is situated in Pickering and holds events from ‘Thomas Tank’ to ‘Wizard Weekends’ and also allows you to enjoy fine dining on the Pullman coach. Pickering itself holds many events including steam fairs, 60’s music and the spectacular War Weekend which incorporates the steam rail network. There are plenty of restaurants, shops and a local market on Thursdays.

Thornton le Dale is a very picturesque local village, five miles from Lockton with some good shops, pubs/restaurant and delightful walks through the village.

Whitby being only sixteen miles is within easy reach and with its rich maritime roots, jet jewellery, its lively gothic scene, varied shops/restaurants and of course its famous ‘Fish & Chips’ is a must to try.

If you like stepping back in time Grosmont and Goathland both heartbeat villages are less than twenty minutes by car or take the steam railway from Pickering. The City of York is also within easy reach and just a forty minute drive - there is so much to see and do in this historic city, you would be spoilt for choice. Shops, Museums, River Cruises and not forgetting the Horse Racing.
