About Brackensyke Cottage

Brackensyke Cottage affords spectacular views from its wonderful elevated hillside position on the outskirts of the North York Moors National Park.

Dating back to around the 18th Century, this delightful stone holiday cottage is ideal for couples who are looking for a peaceful self-catering retreat set amongst beautiful countryside. It affords its own secluded garden for relaxing during the warmer months with decking area - an ideal place to read a good book or enjoy a glass of wine whilst taking in the glorious countryside views.

A five minute walk down a quiet country lane (or two minute drive), takes you to Ampleforth village, where you will find two superb pubs/restaurants, post-office, fish/chip shop and a grocery store for stocking up on provisions. There is also a leisure centre within a mile for those who want to keep fit with a swimming pool, gym, opportunities for racket sports and activities for the little ones.

This is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday where you can explore the area either by foot, bike or car. The area has much to offer all ages with beautiful villages, dramatic wild moorland, abbey ruins, North Yorkshire Moors Railway, York City, Leeds, Harrogate, Ripon and country houses and gardens.

Alternatively, stay locally and enjoy walks through stunning scenery which is a haven for wildlife, from the front door of the cottage. Not only are there two pubs within walking distance but there are also several excellent restaurants nearby within easy reach.

Ampleforth is a delightful village with a Catholic monastery and college with sports centre providing an indoor pool and squash courts for public use. One of the most unique things about Ampleforth is the strong sense of pride that that the locals have with immaculate well maintained properties wherever you look, adding to the charm of the area.
