Little Thatch - Self catering holiday cottage in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, The New Forest, England - Sleeps 2+2

Little Thatch

Burgate Farmhouse is home to Little Thatch Cottage and is situated, about half a mile north of Fordingbridge town centre. It is just a five minute drive from the edge of the New Forest and near the A338 Ringwood to Salisbury road, making it an ideal central location for touring.

The Farmhouse is a picturesque 15th Century thatched property - once a working farmhouse - now a Grade II listed building. The two cottage wings are each self-contained and can be booked individually or together (although they do not connect). Both cottages have colour television, DVD player, CD/radio cassettes, microwave as well as full size cookers and are beautifully appointed with a homely feel. There are lots of DVD's for you to borrow. Heating is by storage heaters, with electric convectors for 'top up heat' in the winter or useful for cool summer evenings when the storage heaters are switched off.

Free Wi-Fi is available.

There is no charge for bed linen, cot or highchair. Also available (free of charge) is a large amount of baby/toddler ‘kit’. Well-behaved dogs are welcome at a small charge. Electricity is by meter. A small charge is made to use the washing machine and tumble drier. There is plenty of parking space in the large gravel area between the cottages and the garden. The half-acre garden is mainly lawn and trees and has a summer house, garden furniture, swings and BBQ for your enjoyment. The garden has a separate area for children’s ball games (+ 2 football nets). There is also a large games room (with pool table, table tennis, skittle alley, dart board and lots of children’s toys).

The New Forest is a region of exceptional natural beauty with large open heaths, moors, greens, leafy glades and dells interspersed with woods and plantations, picturesque streams and brooks, peaceful old villages, ancient churches and quaint houses and pubs.

Little Thatch Cottage is the wing which has a front and back entrance, both with lovely thatched porches. All the rooms are on the ground floor and might suit anyone who is partly disabled. The very large sitting/dining room has a wealth of beams and charm with its own Inglenook fireplace (though no fires please). There is a bed settee in the lounge to increase sleeping facilities to four.

Patio doors lead out from the sitting room onto a lovely shady patio area, underneath the wisteria. The hallway leads to a separate WC. The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, full size cooker, fridge/freezer etc. The bedroom has twin beds which can be 'zip linked' into a large double (and extra colour television with DVD player. The bathroom is adjacent and has a bath with shower and washbasin and is accessed through the bedroom. There is a separate toilet off the hallway. Little Thatch is ideally suited for a couple or a small family.

Little Thatch is ideal for anyone with a dog as there is a secure back garden/yard area leading off from the kitchen door.

You are welcome to arrange an online food order from any of the main supermarkets. Delivery can be made during the morning just before your arrival and everything will be unpacked and put away for you.

Local area The Avon Valley is a popular fishing area. The Avon Valley Footpath is very close by. Just over the road is a lovely stretch of it which goes over a foot suspension bridge, through water meadows and into the New Forest.

Fordingbridge is in the Avon Valley between the New Forest edge and the Dorset borders. The well known coastal resort of Bournemouth is only seventeen miles south. The city of Salisbury is just a few miles away with excellent shopping, a weekly market and the famous Cathedral.

Leave your car behind and walk one hundred metres to the 'Tudor Rose' - a lovely 16th century thatched pub with a family room. You can enjoy good bar meals in a pub with low beams and lots of atmosphere. Also nearby is the Surma Valley, which is a highly recommended Indian Restaurant (with takeaways). Fordingbridge town centre is just half a mile away. The George Inn, near the bridge, has a beer garden overlooking the River Avon and is good for lunches, evening meals and snacks or even just for a morning coffee.

Our 10th visit. It feels like 'our own little holiday cottage. See you again in March 2013. Tom and Mary J from Epsom, Surrey.

We were very comfortable and made to feel very welcome (especially Sukie our little Jack Russell). Thank you for a lovely stay. We'll definitely be back. Susan and Jack Rogers, Brighton

The nearby pub was very nice & the takeaway from the Indian restaurant was superb - not cheap but worth every penny. We enoyed our visit very much. Robertson Family from Manchester
