Old Balwill cottage is perfectly located in a peaceful setting on the edge of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, amid glorious Trossachs scenery. It is two miles from the Stirlingshire village of Buchlyvie and was originally a signalman's cottage, sitting on the old railway line which ran between Stirling and Balloch.
The cottage provides very comfortable holiday accommodation split across two floors and makes an excellent base for exploring Stirlingshire, central Scotland and further afield. Furnished and equipped to a high standard, you will find many African artefacts and paintings that have been brought back from the owners travells to southern Africa.
Whether you are looking for a base from which to tour the area; want a relaxing holiday or are looking for a holiday with lots of physical activity, this area has something for everyone. Ben Lomond, Ben Vorlich, Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Venue are all within easy reach for more serious hill walkers, whilst the smaller beautiful hills of Ben A'an and The Conic make a fantastic walk (with spectacular views) for families with even quite small children.
Walkers and cyclists can enjoy miles of forest trails in the nearby Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, whilst sailors, canoeists and windsurfers can head out onto Loch Venacher, Loch Ard and the famous Loch Lomond.
If you are a golf enthusiast, you will be spoilt for choice with five local clubs within ten miles, all welcoming visitors. Fishermen can fish for rainbow and brown trout on the Lake of Menteith. Alternatively, for those seeking adventure, why not explore the forest from the air, swinging on the UK's largest high-wire zip line (go ape) at Aberfoyle.
There are plenty of things to do and see in this area including: historic buildings; a boat trip on Loch Katrine or Loch Lomond; Scottish Antiques and Crafts Centre near Doune; lots of gift shops, art galleries and wool centres around Killearn; the towns of Aberfoyle and Callander and the cities of Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Old Balwill accommodates up to six guests in three bedrooms and provides the following accommodation and facilities:
Ground floor
Double bedroom with a kingsize bed and television with Freeview.
Shower room (power shower), which is next door and may be made into an en-suite if desired.
Well-equipped dining kitchen, with NEFF oven and French doors out into the garden.
Separate laundry room housing the washing machine, tumble drier and ironing board.
Large L-shaped sitting/dining room with large comfy leather sofas, a dining table seating up to eight and a wood burning stove.
For indoor entertainment, there is a television with Freeview channels, DVD player, hi-fi system, iPod docking station and free wireless internet.
First floor
One east-facing double bedroom with kingsize bed, which overlooks the neighbouring fields.
One twin bedroom with north and south facing velux windows (all velux windows have black-out blinds).
First floor bathroom which overlooks the garden.
Outside: The cottage has its own entrance with plenty of car parking space. The surrounding gardens are private and enclosed, laid out with gravel, flagstones and flower borders, bounded with drystone walls. Wooden garden table and chairs with parasol and gas barbecue are provided for guests enjoyment.
Additional information: Oil fired central heating, starter pack of logs/kindling/firelighters for the stove, bed linen, towels and cleaning/laundry materials included within the price. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement at £15 per dog (maximum two). Short breaks (minimum three nights) are also available in low season.
