Whitestone Cottage sleeps up to six guests and is located near the foot of Lake Windermere within the Lake District which has some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.

The Lake District is popular with walkers and famous for its mountains and fells with the highest and most challenging being Scafell, Scafell Pike, Skiddaw, Helvellyn and Bowfell - ideal for the most enthusiastic of hikers! There are also many more mountains that are easier and just as enjoyable, along with pleasant walks along the lake shore. Alternatively, take advantage of the free leisure passes available to guests of Whitestone Cottage at the Swan Hotel and Spa (www.swanhotel.com/poolandgym). Here you can relax and unwind in the pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room or indulge in a treatment and truly spoil yourself. There are also gym facilities, along with a great bar and superb dining with gardens overlooking the River Leven (the hotel and spa is a mile and a half away from the cottage).

Ideal all year round, the Lake District is great for families, friends or couples looking for a romantic getaway. Whitestone Cottage is located at Newby Bridge, an ideal Lakeland holiday base, set at the gateway to the glorious Lakeland National Park. The area is fantastic for outdoor enthusiasts with stunning scenery on the doorstep and plenty of local attractions to suit all ages and energy levels. Local attractions within walking distance of the cottage are: Lakeland and Haverthwaite Railway; Lakeland Motor Museum and Lakeland Steam Cruises across Lake Windermere. Within just a few minute's drive (or uphill walk) you can enjoy horse riding at Bigland Equestrian Centre which is one of the best in the Lake District and ideal for both experienced and novice riders. The Centre also offers several exciting outdoor sports including fishing, shooting, archery and quad-biking. A short drive from the cottage is Lakeside where you will find Lakeside Aquarium and just eight miles away you have Bowness-on-Windermere with its buzzy atmosphere in the town and around the lake. Ambleside is equally as popular with much to offer its many visitors.

Other popular attractions include: South Lakes Animal Park and Zoo; Grizedale Forest including Go-Ape, with its miles of forest trails which can be explored by mountain bike or foot; Munster Castle and Holker Hall.

Within walking distance of Whitestone Cottage is The Whitewater Hotel with bar and restaurant and the Swan Hotel and Spa (mentioned above). Close by is The Newby Bridge Hotel where you can enjoy a lovely Sunday lunch carvery and both hotels can be reached by an enjoyable hillside walk to help you work up an appetite! There is also a village pub serving good food and drink and family groups are made very welcome.

Wordsworth's best loved family home, Rydal Mount, lies in the heart of the Lake District and between Ambleside and Grasmere. It is worth visiting with glorious views of Lake Windermere, Rydal Water and the surrounding fells. Grasmere Lake and Rydal Water are just to the South, and provide some gentle low level walks.
